The Full Stack Web Developer will work directly with the Manager, Web Development in the development, deployment, testing and maintenance across all digital platforms to support both marketing initiatives as well as key internal stakeholders and partners. The full Stack Web Developer is responsible for creating and maintaining the digital versions of our content for our corporate and brand identities and ensuring the best user experience possible through their choices of technology and attention to detail. This includes branded content strategy, web advertisements, email, and more. A major focus of this role will be enabling rich content creation across all our web properties.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Web Development Manager to maintain and create content on a variety of platforms such as WordPress, Shopify, Rails Environments, and various other static site properties.

• Collaborate with key internal stakeholders, and third party vendors to ensure that web development is providing high quality support to their objectives.

• Consult with the digital marketing and trade marketing teams to ensure the support of ongoing digital initiatives, IE landing pages, microsites, redirect portals, marketing pixels etc.

• Ensure strong SEO on relevant pages.

• Work with our design team to advocate for good UX, with a customer centric viewpoint of the product.

• Design, implement, and test performant web sites using modern web technologies.

• Identify and call out risks around timelines for development projects that align with various in-market activities. Plan and assist for ways to mitigate these risks.

• Ensure WCAG AA compliance and responsive functionality for new assets introduced to all sites.

• Assist in writing and maintaining technical documentation.

• Suggest workflow and efficiency improvements and help to implement them in both process and projects.

• Use CI/CD to effectively configure legacy environments to a more modern and functional DSP model.

• Maintain and enhance analytical tagging on all web properties.

• Support the Manager of Web Development and act as a Subject Matter Expert in their absence.

• Understand compliance requirements inherent in working in a regulated industry such as the Cannabis industry and liaise with the legal and compliance departments to ensure conformity.

• Monitor and occasionally report on key web metrics, such as site uptime, traffic loads, and other internal KPIs such as outbound conversions.

• Assist in managing a large roster of domain names owned by the organization.

• Support the digital marketing teams efforts with email development, wysiwyg campaign creation, or tagging CTAs for email campaigns.

• Liaise with IT department where marketing and web development activities intersect with IT responsibilities and support.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate is creative, collaborative and up to date with trends and technology in the world of web development and marketing, and has:

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

• 3+ years of experience in working on public facing web projects both with and without content management platforms.

• Strong ability to problem-solve and upgrade or replace outdated assets or “pay down technical debt”.

• Proficient with Git workflow and version control. GitHub, BitBucket, etc.

• A demonstrated ability to work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript both vanilla and frameworks.

• Proficient with AWS or Azure for hosting, pipeline building, etc.

• Proficient with one or more web stack (MERN/MEAN, LAMP) with examples of prior work.

• Will challenge thinking respectfully where it makes sense with internal clients.

• Keenly aware of process and the need for constant improvement.

• Familiarity with AWS Lambda and similar serverless compute functions an asset.

• Experience working with motion graphics an asset (GSAP, Anime.js, etc.).

• Ability to research effectively to suggest the best technical routes for new functionality to be implemented.

• Experience with eCommerce an asset.

• Experience with ‘web scraping’ an asset.

• Ability to demonstrate autonomy and time management skills in an incredibly fast-paced, ever-changing environment where projects can pivot at any time and the developer needs to quickly review priorities and manage their time accordingly to meet deadlines.

• Professional working ability in French is an asset (English is the primary working language for HEXO Corp’s marketing function).

• General knowledge of cannabis (strains, cannabinoids, types), competitors and staying up to date with cannabis news as well as cultural trends.
