Position Overview:
Cronos Group is seeking a R&D Technician who will work within the R&D Department and report to the Director of Research & Horticulture. As the R&D Technician you will operating scientific equipment in a lab setting and acquiring data as required by experimental designs. The R&D Technician will support in the R&D Department in their research efforts and in the execution of experiments. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, energetic and able to work as part of a team and at a fast pace.

This position is based out of Stayner, Ontario.

Responsible for all aspects of research and development; creating and executing sound research practices on plant growth and plant care
Lead in organizing and execution of sound project management methodology with defining milestones and maintaining timelines
Collection and analyses of data and using relevant software
Writing and reporting of technical results and information
Presenting findings, scientific insights and recommendations to peers and leadership groups
Track and evaluate effectiveness of treatments and determine next steps
Troubleshooting grower problems and/or product issues

Working Conditions, environment & Physical Demands

Able to lift 50 lbs.
Warm, humid working environments like a greenhouse
50/50 split between working at a desk and working in the production environment
Standing for long periods of time
Manual dexterity
Some overtime as required

Master of Science in Horticulture, Plant Agriculture, Plant Biology, Botany, Plant Pathology and related
Experience in plant, horticultural agricultural science, involved in R&D projects is an asset
Skilled in operating scientific equipment and analysis, such as water analysis and DNA/RNA extraction
Laboratory and testing experience are required
Graduates from a B.Sc., M.Sc. or Ph.D. program in Horticulture, Plant Agriculture, Plant Biology, Botany, Plant Pathology and related will be considered
Excellent handle and understanding of scientific methodologies
Ability to design research experiments and programs that address key questions and hypotheses in a thorough and efficient manner
Understanding of plant production systems in control environments, greenhouses, plant tissue culture vessels, hydroponics
Project Management knowledge and skills
Experience with cannabis desired but not required
Possess strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills to drive decision-making and effectively work with internal and external stakeholders
Scientific curiosity, personal drive and networking abilities to find breakthrough technologies, product improvements and leading methods
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
