Job Summary

Zenabis is currently hiring for a Manager, Operational Excellence. We are located in Vancouver, BC with operations in British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. This is an enterprise level position, supporting all facility operations. There will be considerable travel to our facilities across Canada and we do not require permanent relocation to our office in downtown Vancouver, BC. Operational Excellence is the execution of the business strategy more consistently and reliably than the competition. OE is evidenced by results focusing on meeting customer expectation through the continuous improvement of the operational processes and the culture of the organization.

This position's primary focus is providing technical leadership for OE and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) projects. This position will concentrate on best practice manufacturing solutions, quality and process optimization and reengineering throughout the overall Operations cycle of cultivation, manufacturing, production, logistics, quality and service.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to implement projects pertaining to Operational functional groups
  • Leading Operations improvement projects and NPIs including testing, evaluation and analysis
  • Providing expertise in manufacturing efficiencies and leading continuous improvement initiatives
  • Implementing major technical improvements in production and responsible for vendor contact, sourcing on installation and follow-up
  • Leading the development and implementation of new initiatives to improve quality, safety and efficiencies for Operations
  • Coordinate system design, build, preparing and executing protocols/documents, testing and validation especially for process improvement and GMP activities / compliance
  • Manage customer-related problem solving, process optimization, equipment selection and audits
  • Coordinating the generation and execution of equipment and systems qualification
  • Leading project teams to ensure proper and economical implementation of new products through all areas which service and support Operations
  • Establishing implementation schedules to meet management objectives and coordinating related manufacturing activities and pilot runs in Operations
  • Troubleshooting major problems in manufacturing processes, equipment and quality.
  • Investigating major manufacturing problems and ensuring proper corrective actions to maintain safety, quality and reliability
  • Leading the implementation of optimized production schedules based on Plant Capacity, Equipment Capability and Equipment Availability
  • Supporting Supply Chain to simplify and automate the process(es) and evaluate vendor contracts
  • Working with Sales and Finance to develop Economic Batch Quantities, Forecasts, and Product Transitions
  • Model and KPI reports on Labour Efficiency, Machine Efficiency (OEE), Material Efficiency (Yield) and other relevant metrics such as Cycle Time, RFT etc.
  • Work with relevant groups and apply IE concepts to address root causes/bottlenecks
  • Develop and implement solutions with stakeholders including leading project teams and training stakeholders to implement process improvements
  • Measure post implementation metrics to ensure improvements are tangible and sustainable
  • Responsible for performing process measurements and analysis in support of proposed process improvements and to identify core issues (Pareto Chart, Process Flowing Mapping, Time Studies).
  • Develop detailed cost vs. benefits analysis for recommended solutions, present to stakeholders and implement as per approved plan
  • Other duties as assigned
Operations CI
  • Participate in Operational Excellence and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) activities in production (Cultivation, Manufacturing and Production)
  • Assist with developing Information System based solutions to assist with monitoring and improving productivity and quality (i.e. Shift Reports, KPIs)
  • Participate in development of detailed cost vs. benefits analysis for new projects
  • Responsible for performing Scale-Up progress-tracking, presenting to stakeholders and implementing as per plan
  • Process optimization and process re-engineering
  • Support all operational functions with various continuous improvement projects as required
  • Develop operational excellence systems / tools to increase productivity
Financial Acumen
  • Prepare project/capital justifications using financial modeling techniques
  • Support Operations in preparing budget information
  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering, Computer Science or Management discipline.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on Operations process improvement
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred with a sound understanding of Quality Assurance and Control
  • Ability to lead teams, groups and implement projects
  • Strong business acumen, analytical and conceptual thinking skills with solid knowledge of statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Lean manufacturing methodology.
  • High level of proficiency in computer applications, especially in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables and macros, and databases (SQL)
  • Working knowledge of database fundamentals and ERP systems
  • Experience in data mining and analysis, business processes analysis and optimization
  • Ability to analyze, configure and implement database oriented computerized systems
  • Ability to prioritize activities and adjust priorities on short notice
  • Excellent comprehension, communication and interpersonal skills
Salary: Salaried Position; Commensurate with experience and qualifications
