Role and Responsibilities:

The Chemist is responsible for the preparation and execution of the extraction process. The Chemist will carry out the day to day tasks including extraction, refining, testing, quality assurance and maintenance. The Chemist is responsible for various duties within the laboratory while working compliantly within State and Federal regulatory frameworks.

Essential Functions:

- Ability to follow and adhere to strict regulatory protocols and stand operating procedures.

- Ensure proper handling of pre- and post- extraction materials.

- Process raw cannabis material into a crude concentrate.

- Perform wet chemistry techniques, filtration, distillation, crystallization and purging.

- Carry out cannabinoid concentrate refining process to completion.

- Ensure all processes include clear and well defined labeling to ensure traceability.

- Analyze and report on product test results.

- Assist with daily, weekly, monthly maintenance of the laboratory area and equipment.

- Keep equipment operational by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; performing preventative maintenance.

This individual will work closely with the ABCD parent study coordinator and will assist with day-to-day co-supervision, scheduling, and co-monitoring of a several ABCD Research Assistants and Undergraduate Students. Through the RECOVER study protocol and the ABCD parent study, this individual will work closely with the ABCD research participants assessing complex psychological traits. Accordingly, required qualifications include: a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule (evenings and weekends), and the ability to work onsite at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) and Elliott Hall. Additional required qualifications include experience with in-person and remote interviewing and neurocognitive testing of adolescents and parents, and familiarity with the RedCap data management system.
