The LDB is one of two branches of government responsible for the cannabis and liquor industry of B.C. We operate the wholesale distribution of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores.

Liquor Retail Operations, encompassing the three retail business units of Merchandising, Marketing and Store Operations, is responsible for the daily operations of the 198 BC Liquor Stores. The Retail division develops and executes key strategies to drive business, creates systems and processes, and establishes daily retail procedures to maximize operational excellence, while upholding BCLDB’s core values of service, relationships and results. The Senior Manager assists with the leadership of the merchandising department (which includes retail space planning, category management and marketing) and provides senior management leadership to retail planning and supply chain operations. The position leads and manages all aspects of merchandise planning, inventory management and supply chain operations for BC Liquor Store (BCLS) retail products. This involves managing relationships and working in partnership with a wide network of internal and external partners to develop, implement and monitor merchandise plans and ensure merchandise operations achieve performance targets. The Senior Manager supervises a team of Retail Replenishment Analysts.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience:

• A degree or diploma related to operations management, business management, merchandise planning and/or supply chain management and a minimum of 3 years of recent, related work experience*

• Recent, related work experience within the last 7 years must include:

• Managing and conducting the retail merchandise planning and supply chain operations of a large, distributed wholesale/retail operation.

• Working in collaboration with key business partners (e.g., vendors, marketing, product managers, etc.)

Preference may be given to candidates with retail experience dealing directly with category management (i.e., liquor, grocery, pharmacy).

To provide an outstanding experience to all store guests while controlling costs and contributing to business plans to continually improve sales, profitability and in-store execution.</p><p><b>Store Standards</b></p><ul><li>Maintain a clean and tidy salesfloor from open to close</li><li>Ensure adequate staffing levels to maximize business</li><li>Review and update product displays to ensure the customer experience reflects available product and sales priorities</li><li>Ensure all store product is displayed and priced with full up to date information</li><li>Maintain an efficient standardised back of house lay-out to maximize filling efficiency, ease of re-stocking, ease of inventory counting and control of shrink</li><li>Ensure all fixtures and fittings are in shape as new, replacing or repairing any damage or broken items as required with the minimum of delay</li><li>Ensure all staff and back areas are clean and tidy, including back of store garbage area</li><li>Maintain all store notice boards up to date and accurate</li><li>Ensure exterior of store, and customer entrance area are clean and presented as new everyday</li><li>Take responsibility as required by law for store Health and Safety programs, following legislated programs and reporting requirements</li><li>Train and update all staff members on H&amp;S requirements</li></ul><p><b>Store Processes</b></p><ul><li>Maintain control of store inventory file in POS system</li><li>Manage and control damages and inventory adjustments</li><li>Ensure POS transactions and end of day cash reconciliation is accurate and follow-up and any discrepancies</li><li>Ensure daily balance of funds takes place and follow-up on any discrepancies</li><li>Maintain and control the product card library, and order new or replacement cards when required, with the minimum of delay between receipt of product and presentation of product to guests</li><li>Manage store schedule to ensure best possible coverage of floor and none customer facing activity, while minimizing labour expense</li><li>Manage Humanity daily and weekly reporting, and communicate payroll detail to Payroll Support</li></ul><p><b>People Leadership</b></p><ul><li>Ensure that activities and responsibilities are adequately delegated to appropriate support levels in store</li><li>Coach and direct team members to carry out their daily duties</li><li>Ensure daily, weekly and ad-hoc communication of information occurs to all necessary team members to allow them to carry out their tasks and responsibilities</li><li>Identify poor performance and ensure performance improvement plans are initiated and followed up on</li><li>Using a progressive discipline process, follow-up and review poor performers. Seek approval to terminate team members if this becomes necessary</li><li>Maintain team discipline in personal presentation and personal behaviour standards</li><li>Identify strong performers and ensure development plans are in place, with appropriate and approved increase in responsibilities</li><li>Identify vacant positions or new requirements, seek approval to recruit</li><li>Be a key stakeholder in recruitment and promotion decisions</li><li>Onboard and ensure all new employees are adequately trained to carry out their job roles prior to their first solo shift</li><li>Be decisive and prepared to act within your remit with a sense of urgency for the business</li></ul><p><b>Security and Compliance</b></p><ul><li>Fully understand your responsibilities as a certified store manager with regards to AGCO Requirements</li><li>Ensure store security systems are operational and utilized when necessary to investigate security or shrink concerns</li><li>Ensure security of guests and staff by enforcing the highest standard of behavior and presentation of in-store Security staff</li><li>Follow-up and report on any suspicious incidents of guest or team member behavior</li><li>Carry out any required store audits to maintain accuracy and compliance to company standards</li></ul><p><b>Other Duties</b></p><ul><li>Be a brand ambassador</li><li>Represent the brand when required for media or community events</li><li>Any other reasonable duties as required by store ownership</li></ul><p><b>Qualifications</b></p><ul><li>Minimum of 10 years work experience in the retail or related service industry.</li><li>Minimum of 3 years work experience in a supervisory/management role i</li><li>High School Diploma</li><li>Post-secondary education in Business Accounting courses or equivalent will be considered an asset</li><li>Proven ability to lead a team of 15+ team members</li><li>Prior work experience in a regulated environment is a definite asset</li><li>Knowledge of and experience working with Cannabis industry would be considered an asset</li><li>Desire and ability to develop a positive in-depth understanding of cannabis</li><li>Must be enthusiastic, friendly, optimistic, outgoing, and a team player</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)</li><li>Ability to analyze data to make decisions</li><li>Must have excellent attendance and professionalism</li><li>Detail oriented and able to handle cash, and operate a POS register</li><li>Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check</li><li>Strong organizational, communication, time management and problem-solving skills</li><li>Available to work rotating shifts including: days, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and some holidays</li><li>Valid CanSell certification</li><li>Knowledge of Bill 11: The Safe and Responsible Retailing of Cannabis Act</li></ul><p><b>2161907 Alberta Ltd.
