Reporting to the HSE Manager, the Bilingual HSE Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and facilitating the implementation of environment, health and safety programs designed to assure compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements for our facility. He/she will play an active role in the development, implementation and on-going maintenance of a Health, Safety and Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO standards.

• Assist in the development, implementation and on-going maintenance of an ISO 45001 compliant HSE Management System;

• Facilitate/coordinate training through the management of a Learning Management System

• Facilitate the promotion of safe work behaviours within the production environment

• Facilitate/coordinate the tracking and adherence to the training Matrix and training schedule through the Learning Management System

• Coordinate and conduct training sessions for all employees regarding health and safety practices and legislation

• Develop methods to predict potential hazards using historical data and other informational resources

• Inspect and test work areas, machinery and equipment for potential accident and health.

• Active in championing the site ergonomics initiatives and projects

• Identify existing/potential hazards, suggest elimination/mitigation strategies and upon approval, implement corrective measures;

• Assist in the Developing and the implementation of specific Workplace Health and Safety Programs;

• Promote a culture of safety and prevention: educate employees on workplace/environmental hazards, corporate policies and regulatory requirements;

• Liaise with the Corporate Social Responsibility team on environmental priorities, concerns and/or programs; removed this

• Provide technical and regulatory expertise to internal teams;

• Facilitate/coordinate training of internal teams on policies, procedures or Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety matters;

• Assist in the Investigation workplace incidents (safety and environmental), determine root cause, recommend corrective measures, and ensure follow through to completion

• Active participant on the Joint Health and Safety Committee;

• Establish new sources of data for proactive and leading indicators on Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety performances;

• Liaise with Capital Projects team on new constructions and structural changes to ensure the health and safety of Hexo employees;

• Other responsibilities and accountabilities as assigned by the HSE Manager.

Qualifications

• University degree in Occupational health and safety, environmental sciences, engineering, human resources or other related field is required; or equivalent experience to be explained in a cover letter

• A degree specific to EHS Management is an important asset; or equivalent experience to be explained in a cover letter

• Minimum of 2-5 years' experience in Occupational Health and Safety, preferably within a food and beverage environment;

• Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation combined with training hazard recognition, assessment and control

• Ability to communicate in English and French (spoken and written);

• Strong understanding of OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 an asset;

• Auditing experience an asset;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work with workers and management personnel using a collaborative approach

• Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team

• Strong understanding of environmental issues found within a food and beverage production environment

• In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety regulations in Ontario & Quebec is required;

• Must not have a legal impediment to employment.
