Position Summary:

The Buyer’s primary responsibility is to ensure incoming raw materials and supplies are ordered and received to meet critical production schedules, effectively managing Buy-to-Order and Buy-to-Stock requirements to reduce overall costs and increase inventory turns.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Purchasing of raw materials, equipment, office/MRO supplies and services based on production/business needs
  • Coordinates with and supports the Supply Chain team to drive material and process-related improvements to ensure the site is meeting defined delivery targets
  • Utilize MRP/ERP Software to determine goods needed and understand order frequency to support lead-times and maintain organizational metrics
  • Reviews min/max levels for adjustments based upon usage patterns
  • Maintain appropriate values in ERP system to support planning parameters on components required for product support
  • Perform all aspects of purchase order life cycle including preparation, issuing, change orders, holds, and close out processes
  • Communicate and interact effectively with requesters, internal and external customers, AP, and suppliers on any purchasing related items
  • Expand and maintain a network of suppliers in line with company guidelines in conjunction with the Procurement Manager and Director of Planning and Procurement
  • Maintains Purchasing Department records, manage contacts for all suppliers
  • Provide insights regarding quantitative and qualitative developments such as prices of raw materials that enables management to determine or adjust the procurement strategy.
  • Formulate and present possible procurement solutions and advice that enable management to effectively make decisions
  • The role is responsible for maintaining/ cultivating good relations with suppliers and managing supplier performance
  • Evaluates suppliers on a continuous basis with respect to their quality, service, and pricing; communicates feedback and tracks progress trends.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize procurement processes, techniques, and systems based on the needs and interests of internal and/or external stakeholders
  • Reviews bid proposals and assists in the negotiation of contracts


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years’ experience in purchasing in a pharmaceutical/dietary supplement environment preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience with supplier agreements
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of purchasing/procurement
  • Knowledge of raw/purchased materials, inventory concepts, production processes, and quality control
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, OneDrive, and Slack, etc) with strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems; ability to further develop proficiencies
  • Mathematical computation, ability to process and analyze significant amounts of data
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in purchasing preferably in a pharmaceutical / dietary supplement environment
  • Experience with GMP, FDA, dietary supplements, nutraceuticals a plus
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems or other Inventory Management Software
  • Positive attitude and strong work and moral ethic, commitment to company values
  • Must have a high sense of urgency and take ownership of assigned tasks
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that fluctuates in response to business demands


Compensation:
$55,000.00 - $65,000.00
