Job Summary

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Validation Specialist has primary responsibility for the validation of all programs and systems including equipment and facilities associated with cultivation, processing, testing and packaging of cannabis products as per GMP requirements.

This includes development, execution and reporting on all validation, verification and revalidation studies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development and execution of qualification/validation plans, protocols, flow diagrams, test cases for all production equipment and processes
  • Conduct process validations and equipment qualifications on new or existing processes or equipment in accordance with internal protocols and external standards (i.e. GMP, ISO, Health Canada).
  • Provide training specific to validation protocol requirements to the production department
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures on validated and qualified methods.
  • Create process flow charts and value stream mapping, including critical risk factors, inputs and outputs.
  • Participate in internal or external training programs to maintain knowledge of validation and qualification principles, industry trends, or novel technologies.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders (QA/QC, R&D, Operations, Laboratory, Product Development etc) to ensure validation and qualification needs are met.
  • Collaborate with external vendors as required.
  • Conduct audits in collaboration with the Quality audit team of validated process/equipment to ensure compliance to all relevant standards (i.e. GMP, ISO and Health Canada).


Education/Background Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering or Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3 years in a process control, validation specialist role
  • Previous Health Canada Security Clearance and work experience with a Canadian Licensed Producer (LP) is considered as an asset.
  • Systems and process thinker who understands the importance of continuous improvement and how it fits within the Quality Management System and Risk Management.
  • Previous experience in process design, flow mapping, writing and conducting process validations and equipment qualifications.
  • Exceptional listening, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and a dynamic changing environment.
  • Able to bring innovative solutions to process and equipment design and flow mapping
  • Computer Literate – excellent skills in Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements with respect to validation and qualification activities
  • Certification in Project Management is considered an asset.

Salaried Position: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm – change in working hours may changed based on operational requirements. This position will require after hours, or extended hours based on activity
