About This Role

Every position at Common Citizen from seed to sale, is contributing to our mission to serve our fellow citizens of Michigan with the highest quality, safest cannabis product through our highly individualized and education-oriented provisioning centers.

Quality Control Chemists are the backbone to achieving top-shelf extracts and daily results. They work in

various areas but are primarily accountable for testing cannabis and creating a data feedback loop to

optimize the extraction processes and test for potency on work in process edibles.

Responsibilities

Outlined below is what we see you doing at this point in time. We are a fast-growing company looking for people that are excited to grow along with us. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Performing his/her duties in a safe manner and environment while adhering to all governmental regulations for this industry.
  • Analytical calibration of multiple instruments; HPLC (UV), HPLC (PDA), and GC/MS.
  • Monitoring the day-to-day functionality of analytical equipment.
  • Developing Common Citizen’s SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and ATM (Analytical Test Methods).
  • Research and development of cannabinoid isolation and manipulation of cannabinoid structures.
  • Executing all procedures in an efficient manner that complies with, GMP’s, OSHA regulations, and Michigan state specific regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance and accuracy involving product; tracking, security, and disposable procedures.
  • Using various software platforms as a “chain of custody” for samples intake (METRC, Leaflinx).
  • Performing in-process testing, post-process as well as finished product analysis for multiple departments; Cultivation, Plant Processing, Extraction, Refining, Compounding, Packaging and Research & Development.
  • Working closely with R&D to support continues product development and new products.
  • Conducting quality control analytical testing, not limited to; potency assay, content uniformity, stability, and degradation assays, to ensure Common Citizen produces the highest quality processed medical cannabis products.
  • Managing lab equipment supplies and inventory.
  • Proficient in serial dilutions and unit conversions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Familiar with analytical (Class A) bench preparing techniques, equipment, and software (Empower, Lab solutions or similar)

The Experience You Bring and the Skills we Need:

  • B.S. Chemistry or Biology degree or equivalent required.
  • Three to seven years of applicable medical cannabis, food, or pharmaceutical experience with a
  • focus on ensuring product safety, consumer safety and satisfaction, and high product quality
  • Must possess excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills involving organic solvents and
  • materials.
  • Proven experience in a medical cannabis, food, pharmaceutical environment with a high attention
  • to detail, organization skills, and excellent communication skills with the ability to operate in a
  • safe, detailed and accurate manner.
  • Ability to operate in startup and emerging environment and be flexible to take on new and added
  • responsibilities per the business’ growth needs.
  • Must possess good data logging, database, and material tracking skills to facilitate Common
  • Citizen’s strict compliance with state regulatory requirements for product tracking and tracing.
  • Knowledge of Class 1, Division 1 operating environments and cGMP is highly desirable.
  • This person shall add value by continually evaluating our processing operations with the goal of
  • implementing new and improved processes and bringing new products to the market.
  • Encompasses the ability to communicate well in a team environment but can work
  • independently.
  • Ability to communicate objectives, needs and concerns with management and team member
  • across sites.

  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk.

  • This position occasionally requires the extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects.
