Arbutus Search Group is looking for a talented Research & Development Technician to join one of Canada’s largest, single-site, licensed producers of high-quality, greenhouse-grown cannabis based in BC’s Fraser Valley (Delta).

The Research Technician will play an integral role in the supporting the industry production of high-quality cannabis and cannabis products and will be involved in the development and optimization of processes and product formulations.

Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, the Research Technician will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, using experimental results and benchtop trials to design specifications, be the SME while working closely with product innovation and cross functional teams to ensure compliance with stringent regulations and execution of R&D data presentation and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ability to design experiment, conduct trials and see it to completion or termination.

• Solid understanding of how to use statistical tools and other data analysis tools and be able to translate research and experimental data into readable format for formal presentations and reports.

• Able to create technical specifications on product and process and support the organization by applying technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve operational Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives and opportunities.

• Collaboration with external and internal partners with respect to research, development, innovations, and support cannabis research and communicate technical and complex information to peers, industry, and academic collaborators.

• Innovative and review current processing methodologies and collaborate with other department and seek ways to optimize in house processes.

• A solid understanding about the concept of cannabinoid formulations with other bases for cannabis products development.

• Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cannabinoid formulations with other ingredients for cannabis products development.

• Review and complete documentation related to Research and Development such as SOPs, WIs and PCP.

• Ensure all SOPs, WIs are followed and high sense of adherence to GPP and GDP.

• Coordinate research and development activities in timely manner and work closely with internal customers to ensure research and development is performed per cGMP standards.

• Ensure the effective execution of goals, targets and objectives are established.

• Coordinate with Cultivation Operations, Primary and Secondary Operations on in house and external projects are executed in a timely manner.

• Write weekly processing and production reports.

OTHER DUTIES:

Other duties may arise from time to time/most of the time and as a team, our client looks to support one another.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 2+ years of laboratory experience or equivalent

• MSc/BSc. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, and any science related field is an asset

• Strong verbal and analytical skills with accuracy in relation to data.

• Knowledge in operation of supercritical CO2 machinery and solvent recovery systems will be an asset.

• Knowledge of HPLC, GC-MS and other chromatographic techniques for cannabinoid analysis and data interpretation will be an asset.

• Knowledge in cultivation of cannabis plant and primary processing will be an asset.

• Ability to interact with all levels of the company and remaining up to date with current legislation related to the cannabis act.

• Knowledge in statistical tools and data analysis to help facilitate decision making.

• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and be capable of managing and using ERP software for production transactions.

• Ability to establish priorities, work quickly, accurately, and independently with minimal supervision; demonstrates self-motivation and initiative.

• Effective time management skills with an ability to multi-task efficiently.

• Strong teamwork skills work well as a team member in a fast-paced environment.

• The willingness to maintain an open mind and learn new techniques.

• Must have the ability to maintain and pass an RCMP criminal record check, and obtain security clearance
