Purchasing Manager (Retail)

Our client a cannabis retailer with multiple locations in the Santa Barbara/Los Angeles area is seeking a Purchasing Manager (retail) to join their team. The Purchasing Manager is someone who is highly detailed, organized, can drive results and is familiar with inventory and supply chain processes.

The Retail Purchasing Manager is responsible for the oversight of procurement of all retail merchandise for all dispensary and delivery service locations across California, focusing on building long term strategic partnerships and maximizing gross profit margin while leveraging our growing buying power. The Retail Purchasing Manager will be accountable for the end to end purchasing process and determining the categories to source, achieve savings, manage contract implementation and track the impact.

Job Duties Responsibilities:
Supplier Relationship Management

  • Partner with the organizations management in the evaluation and selection of vendors as well as the negotiation of purchase contracts or service level agreements to develop an overall vendor base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage.
  • Negotiate payment terms andwholesale prices leveraging multi-store buying power and constantly reducing COGS
  • Contact suppliers in order to resolve any issues with retail products
  • Work with suppliers to access promotional products
  • Evaluate and monitor supplier contracts
  • Interview vendors and visit suppliers plants and distribution centers
Product Purchasing Process

  • Collaborate with retail locations, gauging inventory level needs and overseeing sourcing, maintaining the appropriate stock levels
  • Create profitable ways to manage obsolete and slow-moving stock to help offset losses
  • Maintain standard operating procedures for purchasing, proposing improvements to the current purchasing system that may improve vendor relationships and lower the cost of doing business if possible.
  • Ensure consistency of merchandising and branding
  • Conduct frequent pricing assessments in each market to ensure competitively priced at all times
Inventory Management KPI Accountability

  • Conduct frequent ABC Analysis to identify Never out of stock SKUs and Slow-Moving SKUs, optimize Category performance, and execute SKU rationalization exercises
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reports, including forecast demand, days of supply and inventory allocation.
  • Build and manage a monthly open to buy for each location
  • Work directly with each location to ensure accurate PAR Levels are being maintained
  • Expand and maintain performance metrics including but not limited to supplier performance, fill rates, on-time delivery, supplier quality, order placement, and financial (AP) performance including sales, inventory turns, and gross margin dollars
  • Maintain and review records of items bought, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories
Accounting AP

  • Ensure all invoices and purchase orders are properly created, received and processed
  • Provide foresight into cash flow needs on a monthly basis using the open to buy
Education Required Skills

  • At least two years of experience in the CA cannabis industry
  • Bachelor's (Preferred)
  • Proven success in vendor relationship management and COGS reduction
  • At least two years of experience in retail procurement, demand management, supply chain, forecasting, or statistical modeling
  • Highly proficient in Excel and Google Sheets
  • Hands-on experience with a demand planning software tool and ERP systems
  • Knowledge of forecasting methodologies
  • Experience in data mining, analysis, and reporting (preferred)
Compensation: $60-75,000

The Assistant Manager must lead the store in a fast paced and ever changing working environment, while maintaining an eye for excellence and driving the staff to exceed all revenue goals.<br />*<br />*<br />Key Accountabilities: *</p><p>*Business Leader</p><ul><li>Trustworthy in the eyes of the customer and conveys trustworthiness of the Dockside brand;</li></ul><ul><li>Drive and maximize sales performance to consistently achieve the overall sales objectives while ensuring operational integrity and monitoring monthly profitably;</li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrate sales leadership by playing an active role on the sales floor through customer engagement, ensuring the highest level of customer service is provided;</li></ul><ul><li>Manage and support stock levels through direct communication with key business departments to maximize full price selling, maintaining a high sell through as well as alignment with new product launches;</li></ul><ul><li>Train and communicate current regulations and product knowledge to all associates to ensure the team is fully educated on brand pillars by partnering with the appropriate internal departments for operational and product support;</li></ul><p>*<br />*<br />Performance and Talent Management</p><ul><li>Provide ongoing training and coaching to associates to enhance performance and provide constructive, timely feedback;</li></ul><ul><li>Identify and create action plans and build development plans for employees as warranted;*</li></ul><p>*Manage the allocation of staff resources and scheduling to effectively drive sales and ensure customer service;</p><ul><li>Partner with the Operations Manager and Human Resource Manager for all employee relations issues to ensure effective resolution.</li></ul><p>*<br />*<br />Customer Development</p><ul><li>Lead the team on executing superior customer service and after sales experience to increase and retain customer loyalty;</li></ul><ul><li>Understands that medicinal cannabis is important to the wellness of each of our medical customers and demonstrates compassion</li></ul><p>*<br />*<br />Operations</p><ul><li>Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, Loss Prevention, etc. while adhering to and enforcing all company policies and procedures;</li></ul><ul><li>Comply with Federal and Local Regulations in the cannabis industry and immediately notify Operational Leadership of Government Agency visits.</li></ul><ul><li>Comply with all Assets Protection quarterly self-audits, cycle counts, incident reporting and monthly inventory reconciliations to ensure annual inventory shrinkage is below company target;</li></ul><ul><li>Oversee the processing of daily incoming and outbound merchandise requests and shipments;</li></ul><ul><li>Support and maintain visual merchandising standards set by the headquarters;</li></ul><ul><li>Maintain full organization of company assets per the back of house and front of house guidelines provided by headquarters;</li></ul><p>*<br />*<br />Job Requirements:</p><ul><li>Must be 21 years of age;</li></ul><ul><li>Minimum of 5 years of sales experience in retail, luxury retail, or service related industry;</li></ul><ul><li>Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in retail, luxury retail, or service related industry;</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to analyze selling reports, identify business trends, and react quickly to the needs of the business;</li></ul><ul><li>Proven ability to drive positive customer experiences that build loyalty and deliver measurable results;</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment;</li></ul><ul><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook;</li></ul><ul><li>Industry awareness and strong business acumen;</li></ul><ul><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills;</li></ul><ul><li>Flexibility to work a retail schedule which will include mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays;</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time</li></ul><p>*<br />*<br />Required demonstrated skills and abilities:</p><ul><li>Ability to make solid business decisions, problem-solve, and multi-task in a highly dynamic work environment;</li></ul><ul><li>Proven ability to exercise high degree of confidentiality and objectivity</li></ul><ul><li>Consultative sales experience in matching products or services to the specific needs of the customer.</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to work in a team setting and conduct and present oneself in a highly professional manner with both customers and internal personnel;</li></ul><ul><li>Proven ability to work independently with little or no supervision;</li></ul><ul><li>Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback on work performance</li></ul><p>*<br /><b>Please no phone calls/No recruiting agencies</b><br /><b>We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, and a collaborative work environment in an emerging market.
