Veg Production Manager

Job Summary:   The Veg Production Manager is responsible for managing all growing operations and employees specific to the propagation and vegetative process. This includes, but is not limited to, propagation, transplant, vegetative, irrigation and fertilization, IPM, maintenance and the collection and reporting of vital data. It is essential that the highest quality plants are created during the veg process, that they are insect/disease free, uniform in size and created in the correct quantities and timing to ensure peak production. The Veg Production Manager will work along with the Director of Operations and Flower Production Manager to innovate and improve our cultivation system.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing all propagation and veg department operations. Oversee procedures to maintain a safe, sanitary and compliant environment.

Monitor the propagation and veg room environment to ensure optimal growing conditions. Work along with the director of operations to ensure control system and equipment is programmed and properly functioning.

Works 1:1 with veg dept. employees. Performs all the tasks in the grow cycle, including cloning, transplant, trimming, spraying and IPM, inventory management and facility maintenance.

Provide daily direction and communication to grow technicians to complete daily tasks.

Responsible for training, supervising, motivating, and managing of the grow staff (approximately 5 employees)

Identify, lead, and develop employees to maximize individual, team, and organizational effectiveness to meet company goals; Drives improvement in planting techniques and yields.

Ensure SOPs are established, approved, and followed in daily processes and that all cultivation related standard operating procedures are followed, including inventory management, security and cleanliness SOPs

Execute the company’s Integrated Pest Management practices established for the control of all types of mold, powdery mildew, spider mites, root aphids, fungus gnats, etc.

Provide insight and communicate on Facility & Maintenance related matters to ensure the facility is operating for uninterrupted production and efficiency improvements

Regularly meets with Flower and Post Harvest managers to discuss scheduling and organization to precisely meet projected harvest schedules. “Production Cycle” meetings.

Work directly with the Director of Operations to ensure the quantity, mix and yield of strains planted and produced will support sales and production goals.

Maintain seed to sale tracking system as required for your department. Ensure regulatory compliance and that plant count is accurate and up to date.

Routinely inspect plants and working areas; Identify tasks that need to be completed, growth irregularities, and potential crop threats. Collect production related data including clone and spray records. Present as part of our “Cultivation Strategy” meeting.

Required and/or Preferred Qualifications:

4+ years of experience managing a commercial scale cultivation facility within a legal and regulated market (preferably with a licensed cannabis facility).

Knowledge of cultivation: propagation, vegetative growth cycle, flowering growth cycle, harvesting, trimming, curing, and packaging.

Knowledge of diseases, insects, fungi, as well as plant treatment options (preferably with cannabis strains and genetics).

Knowledge of inventory tracking, monitoring systems, cultivation techniques and methodologies (including hydroponics, soil, coco, synthetic, organics, etc.).

Ability to ensure staff compliance with applicable protocols.
