Overview:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chemical Engineer is responsible for managing chemical process scale up and leading IQ / OQ / PQ validation for installation of new equipment and processes. This individual will be responsible for applying solid chemical engineering principles and models (reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, heat & mass transfer, and mixing effects) to efficiently evaluate and develop robust and hygienic processes. The chemical engineer is expected to partner with experts in automation & control and process analytical technology to deliver a world class vertically integrated manufacturing operation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and short-range process control plans (e.g. troubleshooting emergency breakdowns, upgrading engineering safety controls, searching for appropriate technology to address automation needs & modeling and simulation software etc.)
  • Develop tools and technology design basis to sustain existing technologies, and innovate new technology in support of manufacturing, R&D, Nursery & Cultivation
  • Develop selection criteria and performance specifications for equipment and systems required to meet project requirements
  • Oversees the operation of process systems (e.g. extraction, distillation and cryogenics) within buildings are setup efficiently and within hazardous area code requirements
  • Develop and implement actions to continually improve equipment performance, lower operating costs, increase the quality of operations, and drive energy and waste reduction
  • Develop process understanding using design of experiments to determine solvent exchange, kinetics and reactions
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of the following systems: HMI, Historian, DCS, and PLC base control systems
  • Partner with manufacturing, R&D, Nursery & Cultivation to translate process requirements into process engineering deliverables
  • Prepare purchase requisitions in order to request any material and supplies such as tools, equipment and replacement parts
  • Interfaces with vendors and suppliers as necessary to discuss products used in repair work and/or projects that need to be completed
  • Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. related to cannabis controls, for the purpose of recommending efficient purchases and increased workflow efficienc.
  • Develop suitable operational technology to interface with IT including processing historian, SCADA systems & mobile SAAS solutions
  • In addition to PM roles and responsibilities, you will be assigned as the Subject Matter Expert, for all process and automation scope on projects. This includes prioritizing and making the business case as well as developing material balances for product and utilities
  • Develop a SWOT Profile on critical processes and train customers (plant technicians, operators, and managers) on functionality and operation of new and improved systems
  • Demonstrated experience generating technical documentation such as design drawings, P&IDs, DFMEA, verification test procedures and test reports per FDA design controls
  • Experience with Six Sigma practices including Root Cause Analysis, SPC, and Design of Experiments, etc.
  • Ability to present technologies and status of development projects to management and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated record of making critical decisions that positively impact the course of the organization
  • Bring new ways of working to the Engineering community in our continued quest of value engineering while living our core values
  • Participates in establishing company-wide best practices and standards for process engineering and is responsible for ensuring compliance at local site. Leads the development of the plant masterplan for process systems, workflows, and automation.
  • Prepare process design and equipment specifications, design review of design documents and leads the construction, commissioning, & start-up activities at plant facilities. Projects must limit manufacturing disruption and shall be completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop robust bid comparisons for capital equipment recommendation with a keen eye on TCO

Qualifications:

  • 5 years related work experience in engineering, maintenance and operations

Has advanced experience in the structural pest control program to understand the rules and regulations related to minimum standards and be able to discuss with pest control operators.</p><p>Conducts complex inspections and/or investigations related to horticulture, quarantine and/or nursery work.</p><p>Collects routine official regulatory samples of seed, industrial hemp, fertilizer and agricultural lime from manufacturers, dealers, and farmers, as well as investigative samples due to complaints or as follow up to a previous sample collection.</p><p>Uses various electronic devices that assist in inspection/investigation documentation and keeps current with available technology by participating in training provided or by independent study. May serve on new technology pilot program to obtain and present feedback to management on the implementation of new technology for field inspections and investigations.</p><p>25% Administrative</p><p>Serves as lead-worker over Agricultural Environmental Specialists 1 and 2 and trains persons in these positions utilizing technical knowledge of regulatory programs and investigative techniques.</p><p>May assist the supervisor and/or manager in handling administrative functions for this unit, including but not limited to gathering EPA numbers from work reports, reviewing and compiling inspection reports. Independently and accurately responds to inquiries from regulated industries and the public.</p><p>Incumbent is required to operate and maintain a state vehicle in performance of duties and may be required to perform inspections of certified fields on horseback.
