Responsibilities:

  • Receive, label, and analyze all incoming materials (trim, THC distillate, crude, CBD isolate and distillate, sauce, live resin…).
  • Maintain and document all Quality Control procedures; sampling; micro extractions, Independent laboratory testing.
  • Design and execute laboratory testing according standard procedures, make observations and interpret findings.
  • Analyze quality control test results to provide feedback and interpretation to production management.
  • Prepare documentation for IMQC.
  • Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
  • Prepare all chemicals and laboratory materials used in formulations.
  • Create production samples for RnD and quality evaluation before starting production.
  • Inventory (Ready Mixes, chemicals, THC distillate, CBD isolate and distillate, sauce, live resin, everything touching lab).
  • Maintain records of all laboratory activity.
  • Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility. Metrc Experience preferred.
  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed strictly at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemistry or related field.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with instrumentation: HPLC, Moisture Content, GC / GC-MS.
  • Experience working with cannabis & METRC preferred.

This position is intended to be a growth oriented with management options as the lab team grows.</p><p><b>Essential functions</b>:</p><p>Technical</p><ul><li>Receive and accession samples into laboratory information management software (LIMS) and state of MI compliance software (Metrc).</li><li>Removing samples from packaging, weigh, split and batch samples as needed for multiple downstream tests, and capture images.</li><li>Follows routine tasks accurately and follows strict methodologies in order to carry out sample extractions.</li><li>Follows and fulfills analytical preparation duties for various assays, including potency, pesticides, mycotoxins, residual solvents, terpenes, and microorganism contamination analyses per laboratory SOPs.</li><li>Interprets QA/QC and sample result data using basic math, interpretive, and analytical skills.</li><li>Adheres to strict guidelines on documentation while recording data.</li><li>Responsible for various laboratory support activities, including but not limited to, consumable and sample inventory, record-keeping, sample disposal, and cleaning.</li><li>Completes routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting on instruments and equipment.</li><li>Collaborate cross-functionally with other scientists on validations, calibrations, and overall scientific maintenance on HPLC MS/MS; GC, GC/MS and ICP-MS instruments.</li><li>Performs other tasks as specified by the manager/director.</li></ul><p>Compliance and Safety</p><ul><li>Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective and preventive actions.</li><li>Participates in the development of new SOPs and validations.</li><li>Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of data.</li><li>Participates in the updating of departmental standard operating procedures and database to accurately reflect the current practices.</li><li>Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing quality improvement processes, as required.</li><li>Maintains an updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory.</li><li>Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, and State.</li><li>Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and assists with implementation of corrective action plans related to such issues.</li><li>Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to the Compliance Officer and/or Laboratory Director.</li></ul><p><b>Qualifications and Skills </b></p><ul><li>Must be at least 21 years of age.</li><li>Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is required with 0-1+ years of related experience, OR Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college or university with 2+ years of relevant cannabis laboratory experience.
