Under the supervision of the General Counsel, provides administrative, litigation, and research support for the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission (“GMCC”). GMCC is responsible for overseeing the regulated licensing of limited, in-state cultivation, production,
manufacturing, and sale of low-THC oil as well as dispensing to registered patients on the state's
Low-THC Oil Registry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and oversees the maintenance of the legal case filing system including the tracking
of deadlines and statuses of various cases, hearings, meetings, and litigation.
  • Researches, reviews, and drafts legal documents for requests for public records, hearings,
inspections , investigations, hearings, meetings, and litigation.
  • Ensures compliance with the Georgia Open Meetings Act and Georgia Open Records.
  • Performs legal research, including analyzing rules, regulations, case law, and statutory law.
  • Creates and maintains legal research/library resources.
  • Corresponds and meets with GMCC staff regarding various issues.
  • Assist in searching, retrieving, and reviewing information responsive to requests made under
the Georgia Open Records Act.
  • Assists in the coordination of GMCC meetings with GMCC members, GMCC staff, and the
Attorney General’s office (e.g. prepare notices, agendas, summaries, and minutes).
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and sending legal correspondence.
  • Assists in the coordination of administrative hearings.
  • Assists with responding to stakeholder questions.
  • Create and maintain legal files and records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND one year of related
experience in the area of assignment OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited
college or university AND two years of related experience in the area of assignment OR at least six
years of experience in the area of assignment, three years of which must be in a legal support role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants, who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications,
possess knowledge, skills,and abilities in the following areas: Eight+ years of significant management level experience in a state regulatory compliance setting;Working knowledge of state regulatory compliance, licensing, and inspection programs;Working knowledge of licensing systems, compliance systems, and regulatory reporting systems; Familiarity with state laws and regulations and the rules promulgation process;Excellent written and oral communication skills;Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated track record of working independently to achieve
metrics;Working knowledge of computer operating systems and applications; and working knowledge of computer based legal software, tracking, and reporting methods and systems.
