HEAD CANNABIS GROWER

We are a community-oriented cannabis organization that is committed to providing the highest quality flower to the market.

This is a hands-on position in which you must be willing to get your hands dirty and contribute at all operational levels, train team members, provide operational guidance and feedback to the leadership team. You should have very good knowledge of cannabis genetics and growth requirements.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
The Head Grower will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cultivation facility, providing leadership and training to upcoming growers and the Grow Team. This position requires high standards of professionalism and attention to detail is required.

The primary responsibilities will be to manage all the tasks in the grow including cloning, transplanting, feeding plants, topping, flushing, foliar, trimming, packaging, waste disposal, facility sanitation, and crew management. The Head Grower will oversee and supervise employees, ensuring that the company is in full compliance with all state and local regulations, production needs are met, and any procedural problems are addressed and resolved. Additionally, the Head Grower will train our cultivation team in the appropriate and approved cultivation methods, processes, and procedures and conduct employee performance evaluations.

The Head Grower is expected to implement a cultivation schedule aimed at utilizing the full potential of the facility to produce a consistently high-quality final product. Their focus will be to ensure that the needs of our plants are always being met. The Head Grower works with our VP of Operations, and Production and Harvesting leadership to ensure the harvest and trimming plan is on schedule, and to ensure that everyone is working towards compliance and taking necessary corrective actions for any and all growing issues. The Head Grower will collaborate with the leadership team to establish and analyze reports on current practices, adjusting workflow, procedures, and/or product usage to increase yields, efficiency, projected yield and performance, and overall profitability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strong knowledge or experience of large-scale commercial operations including nutrient requirements, growing media, lighting and environmental requirements.
  • Strong understanding of cannabis plant genetics and structures; Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid strains and their respective care required.
  • Work closely with leadership team to develop goals for genetics, propagation, and cultivation.
  • Understanding of all aspects of cloning, seed propagation and genetics, including phenotype and genotype selection.
  • Ability to identify nutrient toxicity and deficiencies. Create and implement corrective action plan with leadership team.
  • Ensuring the safety, health and welfare at work of all direct and indirect reports; and ensures compliance with the workplace safety and health laws and regulations.
  • Maintain a constant, in person leadership and support presence in the cultivation facilities.
  • Providing and maintaining a workplace, necessary equipment, systems and tools that are safe and without risks to health
  • Managing and evaluating resources to ensure productivity and minimize downtime
  • Responsible for, in conjunction with Human Resources, the hire, evaluations, coaching and termination of staff
  • Coordinate Integrated Pest Management with VP of Operations
  • Responsible for the creation and/or review of all Production SOPs
  • Work closely with Leadership Team to ensure compliance
  • Ensure that all personnel working under his/her supervision has been trained, has signed and follows the relevant SOPs, best practices, and fertigation.
  • Responsible for updating and improving SOPs to continually gain efficiency in production and remain in compliance with changing regulations.
  • Ability to document all processes associated with the plants from seed through to harvest
  • Create, document and maintain nutrient fertigation protocols.
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities, with VP of

Operations and Production/Harvesting team, setting clear expectations of the work to be done to ensure product quality.

  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical, plumbing and HVAC problems. Speak with contractors and communicate any potential problems.
  • Strong understanding of production pods. Including mechanical, lighting, plumbing, C02 and

HVAC operations. Example; Ballasts, air handler, AC compressor, C02 regulator, drip irrigation.

  • Previous experience working in trim and harvest would be considered an asset.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Responsible for, in conjunction with the Owners, the creation and performance of annual budgets
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to deal with all types of personalities.
  • Other duties as assigned by Owners

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a grow facility
  • Confident and outgoing personality.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as editing, research and analytical skills.
  • Work exceptionally well independently, and able to foster collaboration across a diverse team
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to execute detailed plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite.
  • Awareness of industry’s latest technology trends and applications.
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Prior experience in a start-up facility or environment
  • Thoroughly familiar and stay current with Montana and Federal marijuana rules and regulations
  • Experience with Metrc, the seed-to-sale inventory tracking system used by Montana DOR is a plus
  • Experience with hydroponic systems/cultivation (preferred)

This individual will provide horticulture and pest management expertise while abiding by laws, rules, policies, procedures and operational guidelines, andwill be expected to meet a standard of quality with finished product set by the management team.<br /><br />JOB RESPONSIBILITIES<br /><br /><ul><li>Responsible for overseeing flower rooms and maintaining plant health through daily check-ins, evaluation of plant health, canopy management, and making adjustments to room environment or grow process with input from the Cultivation manager.</li><li>Monitor temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels daily according to company standards and make adjustments as needed.</li><li>Support other grow team members throughout the grow as needed, including spraying for pest management, supporting colleagues in other grow rooms, or supporting outside of grow rooms.</li><li>Monitor and maintain irrigation system including nutrient mixing, monitoring of nutrient EC, pH, and temperature, and adjusting auto irrigation cycle.</li><li>Daily responsibilities include plant work, and specifically (but not exclusively) big leaf and bottom stripping in flower rooms, training staff, pest and disease identification, problem-solving issues, ensure disinfecting of flower/vegetative rooms, optimizing the crop for yield and quality, and general cleaning.</li><li>Weekly responsibilities include inventory checks, plant health assessments, organizing plant transitions, checking drippers, spot cleaning, applying predatory insects, planting, watering, and plant maintenance.</li><li>Timely completion of work per schedule and strive to increase productivity through coordinated workflow and process improvement recommendations.</li><li>Ensure accurate plant inventory including strain names per tray and count of plants.</li><li>Keep documented logs and notes of room metrics and plant care actions for company records.</li><li>Analyze data of current and past harvest cycles to continuously improve our grow processes and standards.</li><li>Maintain clean grow rooms and workspaces at all times by regularly sanitizing tools, equipment, and grow rooms to ensure sanitary practices and to keep pests away</li><li>Create a positive safety culture ensuring safety of our employees and visitors at all times.
