  • Assess contractor’s proposed radiation test plans for both radiation simulation fidelity and appropriateness of test conditions to assure a complete and conservative result.
  • Assess planned radiation test’s compliance with ASTM, MIL-STD-750 and 883 test methods.
  • Evaluate potential radiation simulation errors that might generate false test conclusions.
  • Travel to various radiation test facilities as required and participate/witness contractor’s radiation tests of piece-parts, sub-assemblies, and larger levels of integration.
  • Support radiation testing for total ionizing dose, dose rate and neutron effects (damage and single event effects).
  • Assess planned radiation test data capture for fidelity and completeness of hardness conclusions.
  • Assess sufficiency/accuracy of proposed radiation dosimetry.
  • Review contractor’s radiation test analyses for appropriate statistical treatment to meet program requirements of probability of success with a given confidence.
  • Review contractor’s worst case circuit analyses for assessment of radiation failure levels and design margins.
  • Conduct and support all engineering and technical activities required during the technology maturation and risk reduction plus the engineering, manufacture, and design acquisition phases.
  • Participate in and support the trade studies activities associated with the system architecture design, providing the LRSO chief engineer assessments of the strengths and weaknesses of candidate architectures to radiation effects.
  • Support the definition of system and subsystem performance, verification, and interface requirements to ensure the resulting system meets the stakeholder requirements related to radiation effects.
  • Define technical performance/high risk tasks which will be important to measure and control during the course of a CM development effort.
  • Support the development of system, subsystem, and component test plans, and participate in the conduct of system, subsystem, and component testing.
