POSITION SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the oversite and supervision of the Distillation, Edible and Extraction Teams within the Culta Laboratory. The Laboratory Manager oversees the execution of botanical cannabis into extracts, and edibles by different methods as an integral part of the facility's daily production schedule.


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises the operations of all extraction equipment in C1D2 Room in conjunction with the distillation lab and edible kitchen
  • Ensures routine maintenance and cleaning is performed on all equipment and the logs are up to date, complete and compliant with state regulations.
  • Able to identify problems or malfunctions with laboratory equipment and responsible for communicating with the Laboratory Director when equipment is not preforming optimally.
  • Communicates with the operational supervisors on what production needs are for each month.
  • Works with the operational supervisors to establish production schedules and communicates those to the Laboratory Director.
  • Communicates with the Post-harvest Director and Inventory Manager to know when raw material will be arriving to the laboratory.
  • Ensures that all the documentation of all activities in company laboratory notebooks/ online logs and inventory tracking system software is always up to date, accurate and compliant with state regulations.
  • Oversees the training of incoming staff on use of all extraction equipment and all processes for cannabinoid purification, isolation, and edible infusion.
  • Planning and organizing production schedules and coordinating with operations personnel to identify and address operational weaknesses
  • Works with the Analytical Laboratory team in monitoring quality control to ensure high quality, accurate results of samples.
  • Monitors the sample collection for third-party testing and ensures routine sample pick up.
  • Ensures that test samples that have cleared from testing are transferred to packaging team.
  • Assists in quality assurance of cannabis concentrates, distillates, beverages, and edibles.
  • Monitors the activities of Extraction, Edible and Distillation teams to ensure that all employees scheduled are in attendance and not exceeding OT limits.
  • Meets with Laboratory Director and team members on regular basis to update on production schedules and meeting production target expectations.
  • Complies with all appropriate ethical, safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensuring the constant improvement of the teams' knowledge base on lab procedures and extraction methods, including safety awareness, knowledge of hazards, OSHA, Food Safety, company standards and quality control.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance, including safety, environmental and document control requirements.
  • Maintains a safe and productive laboratory work area that is clean, organized, and ready for a state inspection at any time.
  • Maintains knowledge of current cGMPs and GLPs. Maintains compliance with current compendial methods.


Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expertise in the various methods and equipment used for extraction of cannabis.
  • Thorough understanding of methods and techniques used for cannabinoid purification and isolation
  • Experience in solvent-less extraction techniques is preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge of Food & Beverage/CPG industry.
  • Experience with standard IT, electronic data management, chemical analysis reports.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • A focus on process and product safety.
  • Exposure to a fast pace/deadline related environment is preferred
  • Superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology or Chemical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in related position with an emphasis in an operations production/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
