Role and Responsibilities Manage all aspects of Quality System Procedures (QSPs) Communicate regularly with Lab Director and Lab Lead as well as all analysts/technicians to ensure efficient workflow Prepare and analyze samples for qualitative and quantitative analysis by following methods outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Conduct specialized analytical testing as directed by the Laboratory Director, in support of development projects, new products, method troubleshooting, or as part of Out-of Specification investigations · Develop and validate new methodology as needed, and continuously work to optimize current methodology. · Facilitate workflow optimization and SOP changes/updates for current and new test methodologies Properly document all results according to SOPs and Work Instructions Regularly review the work of other laboratory personnel (logs, QCs, etc.) Manage and facilitate 3rd party and internal audits annually. Learns all aspects of laboratory instrumentation and detection including but not limited to, HPLC, GC, LC/MS, ICP-MS Ensure compliance with MED and CDPHE requirements, ISO/IEC 17025 and safety guidelines at all times Ensure that testing is completed before client deadlines Review all aspects of final client data for accuracy before publication Train other personnel on specific methods in which proficiency has been demonstrated Clean and maintain the laboratory equipment and work space Manage a Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedule and inventory for all instrumentation Perform technical review of the analytical work to ensure accuracy and completeness of results Facilitate all aspects of the proficiency testing programs Ensure all lab personnel have the proper and up to date training to perform analytical and microbiological tasks Provide technical expertise to clients and internal personnel as needed Draft SOPs and Work Instructions as needed Generate data and reports in line with all QSPs for method validation and client work Ability to present all data and findings when requested by a supervisor, auditor, or client Participate in root cause analysis and generate corrective action reports (CARs) Qualifications and Education Requirements A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Chemistry or related equivalent, Masters or PhD preferred Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience (Chromatography, Quality control, and/or Analytical Techniques) Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge of quality control systems and analytical instrumentation Prior experience in a regulated industry is preferred Preferred Skills Report directly to Lab Director Maintain and promote strong work ethics Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion with information Ability to work in a group environment Work cooperatively with a team of chemists and other staff Highly motivated, self-directed, detail oriented, and quality minded with strong organizational skills Ability to comprehend and follow standard operating procedures and test methods Operates with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects Able to exercise independent, intellectual judgment using data driven decision making Knowledgeable in general analytical techniques with working knowledge of chromatography, spectroscopy, and standard wet chemistry techniques Strong mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference as well as the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations Must have excellent communications skills (written and verbal) to write reports and findings and present to all levels of management in a clear and concise manner Ability to take on additional tasks, as required. The Lab Manager oversees and manages all technical operations of the lab. This role must utilize their experience in chromatography, microbiological analysis, and other chemical methods. The Lab Manger will work with the management team in establishing and implementing standard operating procedures, selecting staff and developing the lab's team of qualified employees.
