The duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Performing in-process testing, post-process testing, as well as finished product analysis for multiple departments, namely, cultivation, processing, extraction, refinement, formulation, packaged goods, and research & development.
  • Ensuring sampling, testing, and release of chemical materials is done efficiently.
  • Conducting quality control/assurance analytical testing, not limited to; potency analysis, content uniformity, stability, pH, viscosity, microbial activity, and degradation assays, to ensure production of the highest quality of finished goods.
  • Adding value by continually evaluating all operations with the goal of implementing new and improved processes and bringing new products to market.
  • Providing, in a collaborative manner, analytical guidance and support for formulation development, upstream and downstream functional groups, and manufacturing, in order to solve real-time development issues in process development.
  • Possessing proficiency in serial dilutions and unit conversions.
  • Executing all procedures in an efficient manner that complies with, GXP, OSHA regulations, state specific regulations.
  • Collecting and analyzing samples for cannabinoid potency using HPLC (UV), HPLC (PDA), LC/MS and GC/HS
  • Identifying and quantifying terpenes using GC/HS.
  • Calibrating multiple analytical instruments; HPLC (UV), HPLC (PDA), LC/MS, UV/VIS, FTIR, pH Meter, viscometer, and GC/HS
  • Monitoring the day-to-day functionality and application of all analytical equipment.
  • Maintaining records of all analyses for permanent filing and proper entry of information on laboratory forms.
  • Evaluating all data obtained from analysis; if discrepancy or deviation occurs, consult with directors and team, as well as recommend additional testing if necessary.
  • Troubleshooting analytical equipment.
  • Maintaining laboratory cleanliness.
  • Developing and following SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and ATM (Analytical Test Methods)
  • Ordering chemical supplies.
  • Conducting microbial analysis via qPCR and plating.
  • Disposing of chemical waste appropriately.
  • Demonstrating the ability to communicate well in a team environment but can work independently.
  • Ability to communicate objectives, needs and concerns with management and team member across departments.
  • Possessing and applying effective interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use computers and data processing, manipulation and management.
  • Having the ability to exercise common sense and good judgment when faced with decisions during testing.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BS/BA in chemistry, biochemistry or biology
  • Minimum of three years work experience in related field focusing on chemical processing and equipment use. (HPLC/GC primarily)
  • Preferred: Previous experience in medical cannabis industry

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently sitting
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including periodic weekends
  • Occasionally Twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl
  • Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication may be required. Sitting or standing for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.
  • Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment.
  • Must be comfortable operating and troubleshooting equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed indoors and outdoors. Must be able to work in hot, humid environments for extended periods of time with exposure to dust, allergens, and water. Appropriate PPE will be provided. Activities include extended periods of sitting, standing, kneeling, stooping and bending. Twisting in tight areas may also be required at times.
