The Role

The IPM Supervisor provides horticulture and pest-management expertise and leads the activities and operations of the IPM program and team in our cultivation department, while abiding by laws, rules, policies, procedures and operational guidelines. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, positive individual with a nursery, horticulture, entomology or plant pathology background, who can think of no better way to spend the workday than training, developing, scouting and tending to the health of our cannabis plants with expert care and precision.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Grower and Assistant Head Grower in IPM Operations and assist in providing direction to Grow Leads and Technicians

• Follow detailed plan and timeline for plant production from clone to harvest

• Perform routine scouting of plant population for potential problems

• Develop and implement a pest management schedule

• Create IPM standard operating procedures and work instructions

• Apply pesticides and beneficial organisms

• Direct and train a high functioning team of up to 5 technicians to execute IPM tasks

• Train grow technicians to identify signs of pests and disease

• Ensure biosecurity protocol is practiced across the grow

• Order biological control agents weekly

• Track biological control agent inventory and maintain vendor relationship

• Assign weekly biological control agent applications

• Communicate with grow staff to ensure IPM tasks do not disrupt cultivation production cycle

• Document applications of biological control agents

• Scout for biological control agents and evaluate efficacy

• Oversee pesticide application to ensure compliance with state laws, WPS, and EPA regulations

• Maintain proper documentation of pesticide application

• Calibrate equipment like sprayers, pH/EC probes, etc.

• Manage the cleaning of pesticide application equipment

• Conduct studies, identify problems, recommend alternatives and implement solutions

• Deliver weekly IPM reports to grow staff on pest pressure and IPM strategies

• Communicate with national IPM team about problems, novel solutions, pesticides, and biological control agents

• Consult with national IPM lead and outside experts such as state extension agents on unfamiliar problems

• Collaborate with Health and Safety Coordinator (or equivalent) to provide Worker Protection Standard Training for facility staff

• Work with HSE coordinator to evaluate potential use of novel pesticides and sanitizers

• Work with HR to develop Pay for Skills IPM competencies

• Provide feedback on team for staff evaluations

• Participate in cloning, potting, trimming/deleafing, fertilizing, and watering cannabis plants

• Manage and track cultivation waste

• Ability to lead team in Head Grower & AHG's absence

• Ensure employees are following all safety and operating procedures and GTI policies

• Follow all SOPs, verbal directives, training information and policies when performing duties

• Lead by example and help create a positive work environment by maintaining a positive attitude, having integrity, being a role model for policy and being self-motivated

Qualifications

• Previous experience in horticulture/nursery, entomology, or plant pathology required

• Some college or college graduate preferred with a focus on plant sciences

• Highly organized, with an obsessive attention to detail

• Experienced in Excel, data collection and entry

• Research skills and familiarity with scientific method preferred

• Must be able to read and correctly follow written instructions and product labels

• Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense and resourcefulness

• Attention to detail and ability to focus on one task for extended periods of time

• Adapts and thrives in a demanding, start-up, fast-paced environment

• Ability to work independently throughout a workday with given directives

Additional Requirements

• Must pass any and all required background checks

• Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry

• Must possess valid driver's license

• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age

• Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry
