The Product Development Technician will assist the Product Development Team in creating prototypes, screening new ingredients, sample preparation, assisting with line runs and product commercialization, producing non-medicated R&D samples, and optimizing current formulations and processes, all with the objective of creating best-in-class products for Cresco Labs.


  • Support and assist the development scientists with trials, new ingredient testing, shelf-life stability testing, and equipment operation
  • Prepare and compound formulated products on the laboratory bench or in production for R&D testing and trials
  • Conduct accurate record keeping and experiment execution with existing and new ingredients within new and existing product formulations
  • Ability to travel to other local development sites
  • Ability to diagnose problems and trouble shoot equipment
  • Participate in non-medicated product cuttings, product evaluations, creative brainstorming sessions and provide feedback on product appearance and form
  • Ability to operate pilot plant equipment and processing lines independently to allow the team to meet product commercialization timelines and schedules
  • Ability to prepare shelf-life studies and ensure testing is completed on a pre-determined amount of sample pulls during an established period
  • Familiarity with working in a production environment and laboratory setting
  • Conduct pH, water activity, moisture analysis, viscosity, and other analytical bench top tests to ensure product conformance
  • Perform analytical sample preparation for benchtop product development testing & analysis
  • Ability to record and interpret technical data
  • Prepare samples and product concepts for internal demonstrations, training, and brainstorming sessions
  • Screen ingredients for function and cost effectiveness
  • Offer ingredient recommendations and ideas for product and process development
  • Execute experiments with the support of the development team, based on project objectives
  • Flexibility and ability to pivot on project needs and deliverables
  • Meet project deadlines by working efficiently with a sense of urgency
  • Maintaining proper sanitation for work areas and pilot plant areas
  • Participate in establishing, improving, and adhering to and fulfill policies, procedures and reporting requirements for all relevant Environment, Health and Safety regulations; local, state and federal food safety regulations; GMP and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); GFSI, SQF, BRC and/or customer food safety requirements and other third-party inspections


  • 1-3 years prior work experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting supporting R&D or Product Development
  • Associates degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, Biology, or science related field in lieu of work experience
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and able to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Desire to learn about ingredient functionality and processing technology to enable product quality improvements and new development
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to stand for long hours when needed
  • Experience with cannabis extracts, processing, or food and beverage production and different infusion techniques a plus
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds, and perform typical cleaning of facilities and equipment
