The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Vice President, Cultivation will own establishing and executing the overall strategic framework for Canopy's global cultivation program, including optimizing plant performance, consistency, yield and enabling the new product and attribute development required to drive growth, enhance margin and gain market share.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate existing strategy, resources and skillsets within Canopy and build a business plan to develop an industry leading, consumer driven cultivation program.

• Evaluate existing cultivation footprint, infrastructure, environment and delivered performance against plant potential.

• Develop and implement cultivation strategy aligned to deliver company plan, maximize effective capacity utilization, ensure consistent, high-quality product and effective cost management.

• Establish data-based cultivation performance expectations and playbooks across all cultivars and locations.

• Enhance gross margins through continuous COGs improvement across cultivation sites.

• Own cultivation P&L, assess financial statements, measure productivity, determine and action cost reduction opportunities.

• Build the teams necessary to execute the cultivation program with excellence.

• Coach, lead and mentor direct reports; establish succession planning within the cultivation function.

• Build, implement, monitor and execute an intentional and impactful employee engagement strategy in the first 90 days in role.

• Establish lean six-sigma continuous improvement mindset across cultivation teams.

• Partner with our breeding and genetics teams in developing varieties expressing key traits needed for marketability, product efficacy, and operational efficiency.

• Support developing of IP and ensure it is owned and protected. This includes plant breeder's rights, utility patents and Business Continuity Plans.

• Establish and implement a Master Grower program, combining the art of cannabis craft growing and consumer experience with the agricultural science required to grow consistent high-yield product at scale.

• Design and operate a cultivation education program across all grow sites.

• Partner with Supply Planning and Manufacturing peers to optimize end to end value chain

• Support Canopy botanical R&D efforts.

• Other duties as assigned.

Experience

• 10-15 years experience in crop breeding and cultivation; Cannabis preferred, additional experience in consumer-packaged goods a plus.

• 10-15 years experience building, developing and leading large multi-site and skill-diverse teams

• Strong business acumen with a high sense of curiosity and intentionality

• Demonstrated ability to achieve specific and targeted program results

• Must be able to communicate effectively; from shopfloor to senior management in a clear, concise, and practical manner

• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Experience managing P&Ls, including unit-based cost analysis and margin enhancement

• High analytical skills and creative problem-solving skills

• Ability to collaborate and influence effectively with multiple levels of a matrixed cross-functional organization

Other Details

This is a full-time role based out Smiths Falls, ON or Toronto, ON with a remote work option and a 30-50% travel requirement across breeding and cultivation sites.
