Job description
The Operations Manager will oversee production operations within the BZAM indoor cultivation facility. The Operations Manager also the Responsible Person (RP) within the licensed facility. Through strategic and tactical direction, the successful candidate will assume responsibility for the operations of the indoor facility and will direct and develop department managers in organizational efficiency and regulatory compliance. The Operations Manager will report directly to the Director of Operations, BZAM Management Inc. and will supplement operational leadership through demonstrated expertise in greenhouse production and experience in large scale processing and handling.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ø Work with Senior Production Manager to develop and implement operational initiative charters (project planning and maintenance including preventative maintenance, daily operations, systems and processes), and define the goals, milestones and KPIs for each workstream/department;
Ø Engage operational strategies that identify high potential output, targets, and opportunities for expansion;
Ø Collaborate with Executive and leadership teams to implement operational performance management including KPIs and growth targets across all business channels and personnel; establish specific KPI metrics for customer satisfaction, quality assurance, production efficiency, safety, and employee satisfaction;
Ø Monitor performance of projects and programs against benchmarks and standards, adjusting where necessary to ensure compliance, productivity, and maximized operations; develop cost reduction measures where possible;
Ø Lead management of facility contractors and develop productive working relationships;
Operational Leadership and Compliance Management
Ø Work with the Senior Production Manager to create leadership programs, set and achieve short and long-term business goals; contribute and actively participate in the company strategic planning process;
Ø Plan and execute production and manufacturing schedules to meet organizational needs; Delegate responsibility of good production practices, packaging, shipping, labeling, import and export requirements as necessary;
Ø Evaluate, select and implement technologies aimed at operational efficiency, optimization, and reporting;
Ø Develop and implement production management and improvement plans including scheduling, budgeting and quality of approved projects; Implement and perform quality controls and monitor production KPI’s to ensure milestones are achieved;
Ø Review results from all facility audits and inspection reports and ensure deficiencies/deviations are addressed in a timely manner; Communicate all results with Senior Level Management;
Ø Implement project and ongoing initiative charters for the various operational departments for the company’s project management office, as directed by the Senior Production Manager; develop and implement facility/site improvement plans including scheduling, budgeting and quality of approved projects;
Ø Remain current with compliance and legislation pertaining to the Cannabis Act and ensure all new regulations, policies and procedures are implemented as required and communicated accordingly;
Ø Support and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Production Practices (GPP);
Financial Planning and Control
Ø Support Senior Production Manager in development and management of forecasting and operational PL, including cost/margin analysis, raw and finished materials and inventory budgeting and planning;
Ø Work with Senior Level Management to ensure financial operations systems are maintained at each facility;
Ø Track and examine operational and financial data to improve profitability;
Ø Prepare contract tenders and review contracts to ensure quality, value and competitiveness;
Ø Review and analyze financial reports addressing discrepancies and taking corrective action to ensure optimized efficiency and cost reductions;
Corporate and Staff Leadership
Ø Collaborate with Senior Level Management and Operational leaders to develop staffing plans, resources and training requirements; workforce planning, development and oversight of 5 departments (processing & packaging, shipping/receiving, maintenance, and sanitation, administration). Coordinate with People & Culture teams to streamline hiring, onboarding and training of new employees at all operational levels;
Ø Oversee a team of department managers in the facility to ensure consistent alignment with corporate goals; support teams in plant production, lean production practices and continuous improvement processes;
Ø Foster collaborative relationships among management teams, departments, contractors, support services, and other stakeholders;
Ø Continuously investigate and introduce process improvement measures and communicate findings to the Senior Production Manager and Director Operations, BZAM Management;
Ø Interact regularly with Senior Level Management and department managers to ensure that company organizational priorities are aligned with overall business goals and direction;
Ø Support cross-functional, cohesive communication and alignment to ensure efficient operations at all department levels and with all relevant stakeholders; and
Ø Liaise with appropriate government bodies and external stakeholders as required to increase organizational support and profitability.
Required Responsibilities as per Cannabis Regulations (upon successful receipt of appropriate security clearance from Health Canada):
Ø Act as the official point of contact with Health Canada during on-site inspections, both in written communication and via the Cannabis Tracking and Licensing System (CTLS);
Ø Assume authority to bind the licensed site and its associated activities to adhere to compliance of the Cannabis Act and Cannabis Regulations;
Ø Be responsible for all activities performed by the license holder; and
Ø Submit, secure and maintain a valid security clearance.
WHAT YOU BRING:
Ø Bachelor’s Degree in Operations management or related field;
Ø Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development;
Ø Proven expertise in organizational development and operations management, lean manufacturing principles, strategic and business planning methods, project planning and coordinating;
Ø Familiarity with commercial cultivation and plant-based product manufacturing, cannabis phenotyping, biological pest mitigation strategies, greenhouse control systems, and product packaging lines would be an asset;
Ø Proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet applications, and scheduling;
Ø Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to demonstrate tact, assertiveness, and diplomacy with multiple stakeholders;
Ø Strong analytical and negotiation skills, capable of troubleshooting operations; and
Ø Knowledge of technical, scientific and regulatory principles related to the cannabis industry and exposure to Cannabis regulations, GMP and GPP standards and requirements, overall regulatory environment and industry standards considered a strong asset.

You Have STRONG BUSINESS ACUMEN with proven expertise in organizational development and operations management, strategic and business planning, commercial cultivation and plant-based manufacturing, and process engineering. You are capably of analyzing data, interpreting and applying legislation, developing systems and standard operating procedures, and managing risk based on data and statistics, while promoting compliance and ethical practices.
You Are FINANCIALLY SAVVY with good understanding of business and financial principles, and strong budgeting and inventory management skills.
YOUR EXPERIENCE:
Ø 5+ years’ operations management experience in a highly regulated industry;
Ø 5+ years’ experience in a large-scale production environment strongly preferred;
Ø 3-5 years’ people management experience;
Ø Demonstrated experience working with quality assurance and control in a production and/or manufacturing environment;
Ø Proven proficiency in perpetual harvesting;
Ø Demonstrated experience with lean production and manufacturing; and
Ø Proven project and budget management experience with solid financial results.
