Integrated Pest Management Technician

OVERVIEW

The IPM Technician II works in conjunction with the Cultivation Manager overseeing all Integrated Pest Management activities. This role is charged with monitoring and advising on crop health, identifying plant problems from pest/pathogen/environmental/cultural factors, while maintaining IPM program compliance with all local, state, and federal guidelines. The candidate will track and advise on plant protectant inventory, be versed in different application methodologies including the calibration and application procedures of equipment, be knowledgeable about treatment through biological and chemical controls, able to identify fungal/entomological/bacterial pathology, maintain reporting and documentation of actions in IPM department, and managing small teams of personnel on daily and weekly goals

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify pest and pathogens and levels in the cultivation areas
  • Monitor pest and pathogen levels, and update the cultivation area supervisors accordingly
  • Monitor crop health in cultivation areas using a variety of tools and instrumentation
  • Maintain and monitor beneficial organism populations and rates
  • Develop, modify, and apply plant protectant treatment plans accordingly
  • Keep careful track of weights and measures in plant protectant preparation
  • Maintain clear records and logs, and ensures timely submission of all required records
  • Report weekly and monthly KPIs and program tracking
  • Maintain supply chain competitiveness, and new product discovery
  • Attend required trainings to maintain commercial applicators license for pest category, and continuing expertise in IPM
  • Maintain effective written and oral communication with Cultivation Manager
  • Ensure teams are following standard operating procedures for assigned tasks and projects and following all safety protocols
  • Identify insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and create treatment plans based on physiology, as well as plant health and needs
  • Measure area dimensions requiring treatment; calculates chemical requirements to address specific pest issues
  • Collating all pest/pathogen scouting data, and evaluating their historical performance and seasonality
  • Developing and monitoring work flows for daily and weekly goals
  • Coordinate scheduling of work orders with Cultivation Manager
  • Stay current on practices and all local, state and federal codes and regulations related to IPM in agriculture
  • Ensure timely submission of all required records
  • Implement quality standards; conducts and documents follow-up inspections
  • Maintains effective written and oral communication with Cultivation Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. This job operates in a commercial horticulture environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud, tight corners and workspaces. Extensive walking and equipment operation. Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers and pollen producing environment. Work
time expectation: 60% of the time will be physical labor, 35% administrative functions, 5% training and misc.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Some examples are: lifting to 50lbs, some work with hands above head, bending over for an extended period, and working in tight, dusty, cold, hot, spaces, etc.

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are: Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm, Friday-Monday 10am-7pm.

Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 21 years of age and pass background check.
Minimum of two years’ field or greenhouse pest management experience OR an undergraduate degree in a related field.
Must obtain a State Certified Applicator license in Pest category within 90 days.
Must complete company issued coursework within 90 days.
Ability to identify insects, arthropods, vertebrates and other pests and create treatment plans based on physiology.

One year of work experience in agricultural experience

We are seeking to add to our collaborative team and at this time are focusing on hiring a <b>part-time Sampler</b> within the <b><i>Southern California</i></b> region and will cover from Santa Ana / Irvine up to West Covina / Pomona in the North, East to Yorba Linda and West to Cerritos / Bellflower and areas in between. <i><b>Will only consider applicants currently living within this region.</b></i></p><p>The Sampler position is responsible for obtaining a representative sample of a batch at the client’s location, completing all relevant documentation, providing excellent customer service, while ensuring all samples are safely and securely provided to our Courier for transport to the Santa Cruz Lab for processing.</p><ul><li><b><i>Must be comfortable</i></b> working with and around cannabis and hemp products (<i>ability to start immediately is preferred</i>)</li><li><b>Previous customer service experience is required</b></li><li>Previous work experience in the <b><i>legal cannabis industry is preferred</i></b></li><li>Ideal candidate will have <b><i>1 year</i></b> of prior laboratory experience from either college or full-time practical work experience / exposure</li><li><b><i>Ability to</i></b> <b><i>safely and securely park and keep a Company owned vehicle is required</i></b></li><li>Candidate that is hired will spend time in Santa Cruz for training, possibly up to 2 weeks</li></ul><p>All employment offers will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check, to include the ability to be added by our motor vehicle insurance provider.</p><p>All applicants selected for an interview will need to provide <b>a current DMV print out</b> at the time of the interview, showing <b>a clean driving record of at least the past 6 years</b>.</p><p><b>PAY RATE</b>: Starts at <b>$18.00 per hour, </b>with a performance review and pay increase after 90 days.</p><p><b>SCHEDULE: Part-Time, up to 29 hours per week</b>, <b>Monday – Friday</b> (must be flexible) schedule will vary week to week based on the needs of our clients.</p><p><b>DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES: </b></p><ul><li>Follow all internal laboratory and State regulations while taking samples and driving to and from the laboratory/clients' sampling site.</li><li>Interact with customers during sample collection and submission.</li><li>Coordinate with Manager of Field Operations, as well as, Customer Service Account Managers to maximize sample collection.</li><li>Strive to maximize driving route efficiency.</li><li>Maintain records of samples and transportation data per relevant procedures.</li><li>Maintain sampling supply/equipment inventory.</li><li>Complete vehicle operational logs and minor maintenance as needed.</li><li>Follow good documentation practices, data integrity principles, and safety behaviors.</li><li>Promote a professional company image through exemplary customer relationship skills.</li><li>Refer customer inquiries, routing or schedule change requests, and/or complaints to the appropriate Account Manager.</li><li>Ensure proper Sample Submission form protocols are followed.</li><li>Suggest and implement continuous process improvement initiatives.</li><li>Support laboratory-based functions including sample intake/preparation, etc.</li><li>Perform other activities as assigned by management.</li></ul><p><b>REQUIREMENTS: </b></p><ul><li><b>Must be at least 25 years of age</b></li><li><b>Must have a minimum of 1-year previous Customer Service experience</b></li><li><b>Must have a valid driver's license; must have and maintain a clean DMV driving record</b></li><li>Skills: Read, write, and speak English; use LIMS, Microsoft Word, Excel, and email applications; must be able to program and follow driving navigation software</li><li>Abilities: Follow written and verbal instructions and be an effective communicator; work effectively in a collaborative environment</li><li>Other characteristics: Strong attention to detail; must possess excellent planning skills</li><li>Must be able to lift 50 lbs.</li></ul><p><b>REQUIRED EDUCATION: </b></p><ul><li>Completed 2 years college or university education (preferably in a scientific discipline) OR Hold a High School Diploma or pass a General Educational Development or High School Equivalency exam and have completed 1 year of full-time practical laboratory experience.</li></ul><p>SC Laboratories California, LLC is an equal opportunity employer.
