Oilers Entertainment Group is searching for a Human Resources Generalist to support Tokyo Smoke, under the integrated portfolio of our parent company, Katz Group. Tokyo Smoke is a retail cannabis chain with over 45 locations across Canada providing high-quality cannabis and related products. Tokyo Smoke was founded in 2015 and has quickly become the number one cannabis brand in Ontario. In 2017, Tokyo Smoke expanded to Calgary and won Best Brand at the Canadian Cannabis Awards.
Role Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist will be located in our Toronto office and will provide overall HR support to Tokyo Smoke retail operations. The HR Generalist will also be responsible for supporting all Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment, and Training and Development initiatives for the store locations. This position will provide consultation and guidance to the store educators and management, offering a local point of contact for HR matters and services.
Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support Tokyo Smoke leaders and store owners on all HR functional areas including: workforce planning, recruitment, termination, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, talent management, training and development and performance management
  • Acts as a single point of contact, providing generalist expertise for company business leaders, Tokyo Smoke store managers and staff
  • Align Tokyo Smoke practices with Employment Standards and employee relations strategies in the best interest of the company
  • Supports HSE (Health, Safety, Environment) for all Tokyo Smoke stores.
  • Support with training and development strategies and initiatives for all Tokyo Smoke stores.
  • Assists the Tokyo Smoke leadership teams in interpreting, assisting and advising employees and managers regarding employment policy and procedures
  • Proactively partner with Managers on employee relations issues in concert with HR Manager to administer proactive communication/ programs etc. to ensure compliance with employment and labour relations legislation
  • Conduct effective, thorough and objective conversations, meetings, interviews, and investigations related to violations of company policy, employment laws and employee complaints
  • Provides consistent HR support on employee relations and performance management issues, including supporting Store Managers through progressive discipline processes
  • Utilize independent judgement and professional expertise in recommending resolution for approval
  • Provide HR support to identify, train and develop employees for optimal levels of customer Experience
  • Works closely with HR coordinator during the onboarding of new Tokyo Smoke Locations for all HR elements including recruitment, onboarding, training, payroll setup, policy implementation, etc.
  • Collaborates with Edmonton HR team to execute HR processes and associated activities, as required
  • Provides onboarding execution for new hires, transfers and promotions including background checks, paperwork, and policy acknowledgement
  • Responsible for maintaining all related HR metrics (recruitment, termination, leave of absence, vacation)
  • Support all Diversity initiatives within Tokyo Smoke
  • Responsible for leading and managing Tokyo Smoke employee engagement initiatives

Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Post-secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Criminal Background Check required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive HR Generalist experience, preferably in a retail
  • Proven ability to act as the single point of contact for Human Resources
  • Experience with part-time and full-time employees in a retail or comparable environment
  • Works independently yet is a strong HR team player
  • Experience within a dynamic environment: building, implementing and strategizing HR processes and procedures
  • Solid understanding of applicable employment and human rights legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Human Rights Code)
  • Experience working with collective agreements considered an asset
  • Experience and understanding of confidential information handling and storage
  • Solid experience in driving positive employee relations, to include strong problem solving
  • Highly self-motivated, with an ability to prioritize and work well under pressure
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong level of influence and negotiation skills.
  • Advanced computer skills including experience with HRIS and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to adapt to change in job duties
  • Ability to travel to various retail locations across Ontario – Specifically from Toronto to Ottawa would be considered an asset

This individual is responsible for coordinating and completing all day to day administrative Human Resources functions in their area of responsibility, payroll included.
