Position Summary


The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and administration of all Human Resources functions of Nice Guys Delivery and Distribution, operating under Nice Guys Inc. The Human Resources Manager oversees and develops programs related to the recruitment, development, management, and retention of employees and employment law compliance, in close collaboration with leadership.

The Human Resources Manager will be encouraged and mentored by the COO and other leadership to develop the skills, experience, and confidence to make daily decisions that have the potential to impact the business.

This position will work on location at our offices in San Rafael, CA.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversees and manages the Human Resources department; planning, organizing, and controlling all activities of the department

  • Administers human resources programs including, but not limited to: compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.

  • Assessing reports provided by department heads and executive leadership to determine employee performance and training needs.

  • Monitoring and ensuring the company’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommending best practices.

  • Develops, recommends and implements personnel policies and procedures, including maintenance of the Employee Handbook. Reviewing and creating recommendations for department-specific policies and procedures, to ensure compliance with employment law and knowledge of best practices.

  • Overseeing and creating talent acquisition and retention strategies.

  • Researching compensation standards set by industry and governing bodies in order to create salary structures and administer employee benefits. Conducting annual salary surveys to ensure competitive compensation and benefits.

  • Creating recruitment plans, interview schedules, and evaluation standards in accordance with HR methodologies and labor laws.

  • Developing and implementing performance review cycles for all employees and management

  • Overseeing exit interviews and procedures.

  • Supervising all HR activities, communications, reports, requests, and documents created and received by the team

  • Attending interdepartmental meetings with other department heads and senior leadership, and acting as trusted advisor for all questions related to employment law and human resources

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to senior leadership

  • Management and training of any Human Resources staff, including basic supervisory responsibilities as well as mentorship and professional development


Pay and Benefits


Position starts at $80,000 per year, negotiable based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)


In order to be considered for the position, the Human Resources Manager must fulfill the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of five years of Human Resource management experience (preferably in California)

  • Human Resources professional certification highly preferred.

  • Previous cannabis industry experience is preferred, especially experience related to cannabis regulation and compliance

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills

  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the company’s HR, work, and talent management systems
