The overall mission of the Director of Human Resources (“HR”) is to lead Curaleaf’s organization to provide HR leadership support for all team members. The Director of HR, is responsible for identifying areas of need and works with teams to develop/implement appropriate solutions to enhance team member satisfaction, ensure proper compliance and limit liability. This role will report to the VP of their function: Shared Services and will provide support to Mid-Level Management within the assigned functions.

MAJOR LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources Strategic Planning

• As part of the HR Leadership Team, collaborates on HR strategies, projects, tools, and programs needed to support Curaleaf business goals

• Is cool under pressure; does not become defensive or irritated when times are tough; is considered mature; can be counted on to hold things together during tough times; can handle stress; is not knocked off balance by the unexpected; doesn’t show frustration when resisted or blocked; is a settling influence in a crisis

Strategic Partnership

• Develops and maintains effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment of HR and business strategy in support of operational growth and exceptional customer service

• Serves as an active participant in senior management meetings and participates in making key decisions and in developing strategic plans and objectives for the business

• Change management with key stakeholders to support the change within their function and communicate these changes to implement and measure change

Human Capital Management

• Partners with business leaders to conduct workforce planning for appropriate levels of the organization; responsible for job design for positions in the area of responsibility; works with leaders and team members to support the development and implementation of team member engagement activities

• Can effectively cope with change; can shift gears comfortably; can decide and act without having the total picture; isn’t upset when things are up in the air; doesn’t have to finish things before moving on; can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty

Talent Management & Acquisition

• Approves adds to staff and backfills, assist in the recruiting and interviewing process as needed

• Support the business leaders with identifying core competencies to ensure selection of team members

Policy & Procedure / Employment Law Compliance

• Maintains knowledge of policies & procedures to serve as a primary resource to Curaleaf management staff and business unit Manager’s

• Serves as Subject Matter Expert and participates in the development and revision of policies and procedures to ensure they are necessary, efficient, and make sound business sense

• Ensures Curaleaf business units comply with Federal/State laws and company policies to minimize liability and foster positive relations between management and staff

• Is widely trusted; is seen as a direct, truthful individual; can present the unvarnished truth in an appropriate and helpful manner; keeps confidences; admits mistakes; doesn’t misrepresent him/herself for personal gain

• Knowledge and understanding of Union activity

Training

• Helps identify and prioritize training needs for the assigned business units

Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development. Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management. Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system. Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance. The goal is to improve the efficiency of the company’s HR operations as well as to facilitate compliance and long-term success for Dockside Cannabis’s employees, their livelihood, and the company. This role is an individual contributor role and has no direct reports. Candidates for this role should be comfortable performing generalist HR tasks while also working strategically. The position is mostly remote, for now, but currently requires at least one weekly visit to one of our retail locations in the Seattle and Shoreline regions.
