Position: Microbiology Laboratory Technician

NSI manufactures chemical and microbiological certified reference materials (CRMs) and proficiency test (PT) standards for water, food, cannabis, and pharmaceutical testing laboratories. We are seeking a full-time laboratory technician to work Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 in the Microbiology Department.

  • Labeling and packaging finished goods
  • General lab maintenance: cleaning and autoclaving glassware, media preparation, recording incubator and freezer temperatures, balance calibration, cleaning and disinfecting laboratory equipment, maintain safe working environment
  • Some data analysis and data entry
  • Shipping and receiving raw materials and finished goods
  • Organize and maintain warehouse

Requirements:

  • High school degree, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in a life science (biology, microbiology, Chemistry)
  • 2-10 years laboratory experience, aseptic technique a plus

  • Self-driven
  • Ability to multi-task

The Extraction Technician completes tasks assigned by the Extraction Manager to monitor and maintain the organization, cleanliness and efficiency of production areas as well as to maintain quality control measures. This position is responsible for assisting with lab production, which includes but is not limited to distillation, extraction, winterization, production of cannabis infused products, compliance requirements, and workplace safety.</p><p>• Familiarity with basic scientific principles and laboratory experience. This staff is expected to conduct scientific experiments according to regulatory requirements for the Fermentation and Microbiology group. As a Lab Technician you will be operating scientific equipment including fermentation vessels in a lab setting and acquiring data as required by experimental designs. The lab technician position requires staff to be highly motivated, energetic, and able to work as part of a team and at a fast pace. This position will report into the Sr. Manager, Separation &amp; Extraction.</p><p>This position is based out of Winnipeg, Canada.</p><p><b>What you’ll be doing: </b></p><ul><li>Execute experimental procedures including assembly and operation of the R&amp;D fermenters.</li><li>Collection and document data.</li><li>Follow proper good laboratory practices (GLP) and company standard operating procedures (SOPs).</li><li>Assist with the preparation of experimental instructions and associated paperwork required for execution of the experiments.</li><li>Complete the primary review of R&amp;D documentation, alert the Research Associate/Scientist when a secondary review that may include generation of Deviation Reports or investigation is required. Prepare files for archiving.</li><li>Write and revise SOPs, as required.</li><li>Ensure that all duties are carried out effectively and proficiently, in a timely and professional manner, and with diligent attention to quality of work.</li><li>This position would not routinely have a supervisory component except when directed to participate in training of junior technical staff on a case-by-case basis.</li><li>Ensure workplace and equipment is cleaned and maintained and in good order.</li><li>Perform all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance requirements.</li><li>Know and apply consistently the Cronos Fermentation safety policies and relevant occupational health and safety legislation. Comply with and enforce safety standards. Correct unsafe practices, procedures, and conditions. Promote safety awareness.</li></ul><p><b>Your Environment: </b></p><ul><li>Standing and walking for long periods of time.</li><li>70-80% in the laboratory.</li><li>Ability to perform a series of repetitive operations requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.</li><li>Work is typically light but occasional heavy lifting and moving of boxes and gas cylinders may be required.</li><li>Must be comfortable with working with various chemicals, usually in small quantities, as can be expected in a laboratory environment.</li><li>Must be comfortable with working with level 2 biohazardous materials.</li><li>40-hour Work Week: Thursday - Monday 8-hour day shifts, but occasional off-hour work may be required.
