The Opportunity

We are seeking a Test Engineer to support our research and development team with the creation, evaluation and execution of tests on our new oil-based products for vaporization. An ideal candidate will exude passion for the cannabis industry and maintain a high level of integrity and must be comfortable with travel to and from the Smith Falls production facility and the Canopy offices in Kanata. The Test Engineer will conduct themselves with the highest levels of professionalism, quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the R&D team in Kanata to understand the various vaporizer products being developed.
  • Participate in the specification and design process for new products.
  • Provide feedback to the group regarding test techniques and results to allow them to integrate this knowledge into new designs.
  • Research and understand various oil extraction techniques being used at the Smith Falls production facility
  • Research and understand how oil products will be used in various vaporizer products
  • Research and understand various oil compositions, extraction products and how these oils will affect the optimum performance of various vaporizer products.
  • Work to develop test and quality assurance procedures to evaluate cannabis oils in various vaporizer products
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and ACMPR.
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical development.
  • Conduct testing in Smith Falls production facility to characterize vaporizer products and effectiveness with extracted oils
  • Record all data and results in specified forms with accuracy and on time.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment as necessary to ensure continued accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly, GMP compliant workspace; and
Experience
  • Experience using analytical chemistry equipment such as mass spectrometers (GC/MS, ICP/MS, HPLC) or a willingness and ability to learn.
  • Solid understanding of the engineering design process and the scientific process and its application
  • Familiarity with cannabis industry, policies and ACMPR regulations considered a strong asset;
  • Knowledge and experience with cannabis extraction processes considered an asset;
  • Understanding of cannabis distillation processes preferred, but not required;
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills;
  • Strong math and statistical skills;
  • Strong engineering skills, design, development and production experience in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Good communication, oral and written, and accurate reporting skills.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and ability to work well on a team.
  • Must be able to keep confidentiality and proprietary information secure
  • Capable of thinking analytically and troubleshoot experiments;
  • Effectively operate industrial equipment, manipulate valves and use various tool;
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation.

This is a full-time position based out of Kanata but will require frequent travel to the Canopy production and test facility in Smith Falls.

The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.</p><p>SHS provides oversight of primary urgent care, women’s health and specialty care for a student body of over 40,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students as well as supporting services including laboratory, pharmacy, imaging. SHS staff consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, Social workers, medical assistants, pharmacists, x-ray technologists, clinical laboratory scientists, medical lab assistant, administrative and other healthcare professionals. SHS provides integrated clinical services to address the medical needs of the individual students, as well as to foster the well-being of the students as a whole person. In addition, SHS supports the public health needs of the campus community. SHS is accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care and is fully committed to continuous quality and safety improvement through the utilization of data, outcome, and patient experience measurements.</p><p>The Lead Technician/Optician performs specialized tasks in fitting, dispensing, and adjusting eyewear (frame, lenses, and coatings) while considering a patient's prescription, occupation, lifestyle, finances, habits, facial features, and preferences. Provide the ophthalmic lab with all optical spectacle work orders. Assist in overseeing optical practice which include fitting, ordering, and dispensing glasses and contact lenses. Schedule and meet with vendor representatives to purchase, monitor, and maintain an accounting of frames, contacts, glasses, and optical supplies. Verify spectacle orders are made to specifications and meet ANSI Z80 standards.</p><p>This position provides assistance in optometry procedures: taking patient history, visual acuity, color vision, stereopsis, auto refractive error measurements, intraocular ocular pressure measurements using non contact tonometer, spectacle and contact lens measurements, contact lens training in insertion and removal and related services. Act as the clinic lead: trains new technicians on patient care and oversees clinic patient flow. Provide work direction to support staff and assistants for optical dispensary and/or optometry practice. Assist with organization and stocking of exam rooms. Assist Optometry Supervisor in administrative services including activities in billing, coding, reconciliations, inventory, finance, human resources, procurement, purchasing and student health services. Resolve vendor accounts payable concerns. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal and material resources.
