Roles & Responsibilities

• Responsible for managing all aspects of key initiatives and projects across multiple business functions in support of the Production program at Langstaff.

• Report regularly and directly to the Director of Production on production, quality, engineering, and labor related issues using industry defined and developed Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to monitor results.

• Own and optimize procedures and processes for production.

• Develop, review and implement Standard Operating Procedures as required for all production processes.

• Ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to achieve GPP standards.

• Manages staff up to 25 technicians with ability to hire, train, develop, promote, and move employees through the organization in coordination with the company’s overall strategic plan.

• Develops staff and builds/maintains succession planning. Provide motivation, support, and guidance to employees. Ensure sufficient qualified staff and supervision to meet objectives. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.

• Sustains and maintains calibration and preventative maintenance program of manufacturing equipment to ensure fixed assets are preserved and provides recommendations on purchases of new equipment and improvements to plant property.

• Ensures compliance with current federal, provincial and Health Canada regulations.

• Collaborate with various programs essential to production (i.e., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.)

• Develop and execute strategic plans to optimize cost, quality, capacity, lead-time, delivery, and time to market for new products, and work in close collaboration and partnership with Finance, Quality, Sales, and Operations departments to optimize overall operational excellence.

• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment of goals and priorities and ensures availability of manufacturing capacity to meet increasing demand for existing products and for the launch of new products Ensure proactive engagement and representation of Production during product development cycles to ensure future products meet quality, service, and cost objectives.

• Consumer centric focused and exceptional product quality to delight customer.

• Ability to perform Enterprise Resource Planning functions and advise on production focused development.

• Ability to escalate production related issues that may impact meeting deadlines or impact product quality

Quality:

• Ensure a culture of quality assurance and active quality risk management.

• Ensure compliance with all specifications; actively influences the determination of specifications.

• Provide solutions to root cause analysis investigations identified by quality, to non-conformances that are the direct result of production operations.

Cost:

• In collaboration with Director of Production, maintain and meet the production costs and budgets and support the financial planning and budgeting processes.

• Implements a culture of continuous improvement.

• Harmonizes processes and performance indicators across production categories.

Delivery:

• Optimize the use of resources (human, logistical, raw materials, and processes) in terms of availability and financial return to meet production targets.

• Ensure implementation of planning parameters and production reliability to deliver on-time and “Right the First Time”

Strategic Planning:

• Work with Director of Production to establish and manage current and long-range objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), strategic plans and policies

• Strong relationship with Planning team required to support meeting production timelines

Safety:

• Ensure execution of CannTrust OHS programs, regulatory compliance, and the zero-tolerance philosophy.

• Ensure that OHS outcomes improve steadily, that teams understand deficiencies, that corrective action is taken and that best practices are disseminated.

Education & Experience

• BA/BS in industrial, mechanical, or business administration, or a 4-year technical degree in related discipline

• 5+ years of experience in production management in GPP Operations/Manufacturing environment with Food, Petrochemical, Nutraceuticals or Pharmaceutical background Leadership experience within regulated environments (i.e. CGMP, OSHA, EPA, EU)

• Mechanical and technical aptitude for packaging process machinery, instrumentation, PLC control systems and tooling an asset

• Proven project management skills and demonstrated ability to execute and manage complex projects and programs

• Experience with regulated environments (i.e. CGMP, OSHA, EPA, EU)

• Ability to partner with stakeholders and influence at all levels of the organization

• Extensive knowledge of the cannabis industry

• Able to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment

• Punctual and able to manage multiple priorities

Requirements

• Excellent communication skills, fluent in English

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

• Available to travel to company locations within the GTA and perform work functions from site

• Must be 19 years of age or older

• Must pass an RCMP security clearance

• Experience with GMP practices considered an asset

Physical Demands

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to lift up to and including 25lbs -50 lbs, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time and reach with arms/hands. Walking, climbing stairs, standing, and moving items is occasionally required. The employee must wear the required PPE to complete their job functions. The company reserves the right to modify PPE requirements based on regulatory, compliance and operational needs.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to packaged cannabis products/supplies. The working environment can be noisy at times and temperate, the employee must have knowledge of how to manage their own personal safety under these conditions.
