Create repeatable solution patterns and standards for relevant data management capabilities to ensure data consistency and accuracy, while maintaining SLA requirements.Perform technology and product assessments to drive required infrastructure needs to meet scalability, availability, security and concurrency needs.Cross team collaboration with Product, Analytics and Engineering teams, participate in all phases of SDLC - product requirement gathering, design, development and support. What you've accomplished: 3+ years of Data/Software EngineeringStrong knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling concepts.Experience building data integration pipelines, familiarity with ETL, ELT, Change Data Capture (CDC), Streaming and other data processing patterns.Experience with Airflow or similar workflow management solutions.Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language, Python preferred.Experience with AWS, good understanding of data services offered and ability to recommend cost effective solutions in and out of the boxStrong knowledge of various relational and non-relational database systems, proficiency at least with one (Postgres, ElasticSearch, Redshift, MongoDB, etc), experience with structured and semi structured data.Experience with streams and event driven patterns is a plus.Excellent documentation and communication skills. As well as the development, optimization, and validation of existing and new methods.</p><p>This position is for a motivated and experienced individual with a strong desire to work in a fast-paced, high throughput, collaborative startup environment.</p><p><b>Key Accountabilities</b></p><ul><li>Build, manage, and develop an efficient laboratory team.</li><li>Leading laboratory operations.</li><li>Develop and manage safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.</li><li>Analyze cannabis and cannabis product samples for pesticides, heavy metals, microbial, potency, terpene profiles, residual solvents, stability, dissolution/disintegration, and sterility.</li><li>Review certificates of analysis and results of laboratory tests for compliance to internal specifications prior to release of results to clients</li><li>Perform root cause analysis on out of specification analyses and implement changes to policies and procedures.</li><li>Consult on, develop, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) and related programs.</li><li>Ensure that the instrumentation, standard operating procedures, test results are all within specification and up to date.</li><li>Build strategic and operational processes.</li><li>Create relationships with key industry partners.</li><li>Record keeping requirements of the Cannabis Tracking Licensing System.</li><li>Accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the quality assurance and control systems in compliance with ISO 17025 and the Medicinal Cannabis Act.</li><li>Accountable for compliance with Health Canada’s QA guidelines pertaining to production, input materials, environmental controls, security, and storage under the Cannabis Act.</li><li>Conduct internal audits and facilitate government audits and inspections pertaining to Quality Assurance and Lab functions.</li><li>Oversee procedures and processes pertaining to incidents, complaints, and deviations.</li><li>Oversee the sampling and testing of material inputs as well as ensuring compliance.</li></ul><p><b>Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience</b></p><ul><li>MSc or higher in chemistry is required, preferably in the areas of analytical chemistry.</li><li>4+ years of professional analytical chemistry laboratory experience.</li><li>Expert working knowledge in Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS/MS), Liquid Chromatography/UV-Visible Spectroscopic Detection (LC-UV), Inductively Coupled Plasma/Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and liquid-liquid and solid phase extraction techniques and associated analysis software.</li><li>Expert in analytical method development and validation of LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS and HPLC methods.</li><li>Ability to get a police security screening clearance is mandatory (CTLS).</li><li>Experience working with cannabis through a licensed laboratory will be an asset.</li><li>Knowledge of extraction techniques and solvents will be an asset.</li><li>Knowledge of cultivation techniques and pesticides will be an asset.</li><li>Good Understanding of Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Pest Control Products Act, Fertilizers Act, HACCP, Medicinal Cannabis Act will be an asset.</li><li>Familiarity with ISO certification and standards will be an asset.</li><li>Research and teaching experience will be an asset.</li></ul><p>Physical Demands:</p><ul><li>Remaining in a seated or standing position for extended periods</li><li>Performing repetitive tasks with hands, fingers, and wrists</li></ul><p><b>Equal Opportunity Employment</b>:</p><p>Northern Scientific is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
