Our client, a rapidly growing cannabis operator located in Baltimore, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to become a key member of their accounting team.

The Controller will report directly to the Management Team, and serve in an important financial management role with the organization, interfacing with senior management, accounting staff, and various key stakeholders both inside and outside the company.

Previous knowledge of and compliance with all Federal and State Cannabis regulations is preferred, as is previous experience with METRC and Microsoft Dynamics 365.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly close and financial statements, as well as prepare supporting documents for monthly and annual compliance audits
  • Prepare journal entries as part of monthly transaction and closing process
  • Analyze accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory costs, and internal controls to provide management reporting in the area
  • Support and supervise accounting staff in daily and monthly transaction processing
  • Account reconciliations and support schedules as part of month end close
  • Developing ad hoc financial analysis, and weekly cash flow reports
  • Assist in accounts receivable collections
  • Assist is preparation of budgets and forecasts
  • Assist in the cash management process, and perform other duties as requested
  • Work as primary conduit with external accountants during the annual review
  • Work as primary conduit with tax advisors to determine quarterly tax provisions and filing of annual tax returns
  • Liaise with lenders and investors, as necessary
  • Assist with process improvement and automation across all areas of accounting and finance

Job Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or similar
  • 8+ years of related work experience is required (CPA preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and policies and procedures for financial record keeping and reporting
  • Experience with cost accounting
  • Advance computer skills in Excel, and Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Knowledge of all Federal and State Cannabis regulations and compliance requirements, including with the METRC system, is preferred
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management and communications skills
  • Self-starter who can excel in a fast-paced environment with excellent written and verbal communication skills, friendly personality and team building leadership skills required
  • Previous cannabis experience preferred
