Job Overview

48North is a vertically integrated licensed cannabis producer focused on next-generation cannabis products and building an authentic brand portfolio. 48North operates Delshen, a premium indoor craft cannabis facility located in Northern Ontario. The company also processes and manufactures next-generation cannabis products at Good: House, 48North’s state-of-the-art processing and manufacturing facility located in Brantford, Ontario.

48North is recruiting for a Director, Retail. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Marketing and Innovation.

The Director, Retail is responsible for implementing retail marketing strategies and supporting key retail accounts for 48North. They will lead the development and execution of retail marketing plans in complete alignment with organizational objectives and business plans. They will ensure that 48North customers are provided with a variety of best-in-class trade assets, effective retail programming and impactful brand experiences. The Director, Retail will lead execution of retail marketing plans and communicate this guidance to the sales team along with set achievable targets per month. The individual will be a champion of the 48N brand and act as subject matter expert of our marketing guidelines.

This individual will be energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; someone who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical marketing initiatives. The position is full-time and based in Toronto, Ontario and in the future requires approximately 30% travel time across the GTA, southwestern Ontario, Alberta and Quebec.
Responsibilities
  • Translate brand and product objectives into clear, effective retail promotion strategies. Develop and update yearly retail marketing plans to gain senior management support for strategic initiatives and market development activities
  • Provide ongoing feedback and regular retail programming post-reports to measure and evaluate ROI and program success
  • Communication of objectives to sales team, and measurement of sales team against these objectives
  • Serve as the lead for key retail accounts to build long term, mutually beneficial relationships that help to drive awareness and sales of 48North products
  • Measure and secure ROI with selected Key Accounts
  • Work closely with Sales to ensure strategic alignment and support for events and promotional activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional multidisciplinary project teams to ensure projects are effective, on time, and that strategies are consistent across the organization
  • Support the creation of a wide variety of marketing materials, presentations, and strategic plans in alignment with company priorities and budgets
  • Compile research and analyze market activity to inform strategies and ensure effective retail tactics, promotional materials, and marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with the business leaders on all brand awareness Initiatives
  • Meet with senior leadership to present and communicate campaign strategies and solutions
  • Respond to requests and ensure proper strategies and campaigns are provided and utilized in all channels
  • Initiate retail sales and marketing best practices, based on up-to-date knowledge of industry and technologies
  • Monitor compliance to our branding strategy and deploy brand equity and communication strategies for 48North in line with the overall marketing and communication strategy
  • Keep abreast with industry trends and competitive activity, sharing information with other divisions/departments
  • Measure success of all key initiatives against pre-defined objectives to ensure that all new trade and retail marketing activities will add value

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Marketing, Business or Communications, or equal combination of experience and education highly preferred
  • 5-7 years working experience in a senior Marketing and/or Sales position with similar scope of responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry preferred. Cannabis background a strong asset.
  • Experience in managing engaging marketing and sales initiatives (campaigns, trade events)
  • Experience in a Senior Retail or Sales role as well as leading teams or large cross-functional initiatives
