Director of Operations:

Vangst is working with a start-up company engaged in the cultivation and manufacture of cannabis products located 30 mins from Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Operations Director / Manager will be responsible for handling back-of-house business operations, managing HR, logistics, compliance, and general operational excellence. This role will collaborate with cultivation and extraction leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Continually focuses on achieving profitability through effective management of each department’s activities within the assigned area, including revenue generation, cost control, internal control, employee training, safety standards, cannabis business compliance.

• Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting financial data and work to maximize revenue and reduce costs.

• Proactive communication with the Executive Staff to ensure smooth operations and transparency with the executive team.

• Manage the day-to-day business operation; make tough, but consistent decisions for the overall progression of the business.

• Successfully recruit and attract top talent; continuously train, mentor, and coach the management staff to ensure productivity, efficiency and growth for all employees.

• Mediate conflict, address complex issues, and make decisions in high-pressure situations.

• Strong financial and analytical skills, prior experience developing and managing budgets and overseeing business functions such as HR, Accounting, Finance, Marketing etc.

• Cannabis industry experience required.

• Have working knowledge of all laws, regulations for Michigan and operating procedures related to medical & recreational cannabis for all business operations.

• Knowledge of process improvement, SOP’s, KPI’s, and Production reporting is a must.

• Experience at startup or high growth company preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills; Solid written and verbal communication.

• Must be able to roll up sleeves and fill in any positions when needed.

• Ability and willingness to work a full-time schedule, including availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Position is located 30 minutes west of Kalamazoo, MI.

• Incentive compensation bonus structure related to performance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items that weigh more than 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.</p><p><b>Required</b></p><p>Education and</p><p><b>Experience:</b></p><p>• BA or BS degree preferred</p><p>• Minimum of 5-7 years of Senior Human Resources in Retail Business with cannabis experience preferred.</p><p>• Self-starter, driven, ability to work independently and collaborate successfully across multiple departments</p><p>• Successful track record of team management</p><p>• Superior problem solving and analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative)</p><p>• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of GSuite and Microsoft Applications.</p><p>Salary: $100 K</p><p><b>Expected Hours of Work:</b></p><p>This is a full time, exempt role.
