JOB SUMMARY

As a leading member of Sunnyside’s Retail Merchant team, the Director of Merchandising will provide leadership and strategic direction to our Regional Merchant teams in areas such as assortment, inventory, pricing, and planning. This leader is focused and has the ability to set vision, gain alignment, influence cross-functional teams, and inspire our Merchants around shared goals. This position reports directly to the VP of Merchandising and will work closely with Retail Operations, S&OP, Marketing, Finance, and Store teams to improve Sunnyside’s sales and profitability.

CORE JOB DUTIES

• Establish our overall operating model as it pertains to buying, planning, store allocation and replenishment to achieve our merchandise strategy and goals

• Working closely with the regional merchants; guide assortment, inventory, and pricing decisions in partnership with operations and finance teams to drive revenue while maximizing margin

• In collaboration with S&OP; formalize retail inventory planning and internal transfer procedures which produce win-win for Sunnyside & Cresco Wholesale

• Develop data-driven strategies which drive growth by region and by category, to meet customer needs and maximize sales

• Act as a change agent to support larger Retail initiatives and develop new processes with cross-functional business partners which improve productivity.

• Develop, mentor, and train regional merchants and foster a culture of a creativity, cohesiveness, curiosity, and collaboration which engages team members and motivates them to be great each day.

• Lead by example and ensure all product & merchandising decisions are based on data or consumer/shopper insights

• Cultivate a Merchant mindset amongst all Sunnyside team members, along with championing this effort across all of Cresco.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred

• 10+ years of progressively responsible and hands-on business experience with market-leading company. Experience in omni-channel retail is ideal.

• 5+ years of prior supervisory experience

• Operationally strong, detail obsessed. Sees the big picture and understands how things connect. Must be able to operate at both strategical and tactical levels and appreciates that sorting the details is a requirement

• Track record of establishing and enhancing senior-level partnerships with 3rd party vendors

• Excellent writing skills; ability to package ideas simply and persuasively

• Adapts and thrives in a demanding, fast-paced environment

• Possesses a high level of critical thinking

• Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
