The Opportunity

The Director Talent Development is a net new position that will play a critical role in achieving Canopy’s growth aspirations and building our capabilities in Learning and Development and Talent Management. This is a terrific opportunity to help define and lead our Global Talent initiatives in a fast paced and growing company. This is both a strategic and a hands-on role reporting into the Vice President Talent Management. As a player-coach, you will build, evolve, and lead an existing Talent Development team, establish a Talent Management team from the ground up, oversee the development and refinement of this infrastructure to drive continuous improvement, while leveraging your deep expertise and experience as a strategic business partner and thought leader for the organization. You will develop and deliver a comprehensive Talent Development and Talent Management multi-year roadmap that ensures the organization develops and upskills our talent for current and future roles and organizational growth.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for the results of the Talent Development and Talent Management area and champion a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization through our talent practices

• With the Vice President Talent Management, co-create and execute the global Talent Development and Talent Management strategy and multi-year roadmap. Provide input to Senior HR leadership team to feed into our overall HR strategic plan and strategy

• Build and evolve our Talent Development & Talent Management organizational structure, lead, coach and develop a team of professionals and continue to build and scale our global talent function

• This is both a strategic and hands-on role focusing on these key areas:

• Assess and develop organizational talent through a defined Talent Development and Talent Management Strategy

• Consult with HR & cross-functional leaders to identify organization-wide talent development needs; develop and implement strategic solutions to meet evolving organizational needs and monitor effectiveness of programs and development action plans

• Develop processes and programs to grow and diversify talent bench strength (performance management, development plans, talent review, succession planning, coaching career framework, career paths)

• Build a culture of robust performance feedback and continuous learning

• Develop leaders to be strong coaches and builders of A Player Talent

• Accountable for external vendors and contracts. Manage our external partnerships (LMS provider, training vendors, coaching firms etc.) and oversee the creation of strategic alliances to ensure quality programs that support our talent agenda

• Oversee the creation and implementation of a consistent and positive employee learner experience and instill a growth mindset culture

• Oversee the establishment of evaluation methods, metrics, reporting and analytics of our Talent Development and Talent Management programs and oversee proactive identification of opportunities for improvement

Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree is required; a degree or Certificate in Human Resources or Certified Training Practitioner (CTP)/Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) designation is preferred

• Minimum 7 years of progressive Learning and Development and Talent Management experience, with 5-7 years of experience leading a team of Talent professionals

• Global Learning and Development and Talent Management experience preferred; CPG experience an asset

• Proven experience in the development and implementation of a global talent strategy and roadmap, process, and programs through the ability to understand business needs and translate this to effective and impactful initiatives

• High degree of agility and experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where processes and systems are still developing

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and managing in a matrixed structure

• Strong leadership skills, managing and coaching a geographically dispersed team

• Hands-on leader who operates both tactically and strategically as needed to deliver results

• Excellent project management capabilities, strong results orientation, and an effective relationship builder and collaborator who can influence others at all levels of the organization

• Compelling communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present information and facilitate programs with various levels and diverse audiences, including executives

• Deep knowledge of adult learning principles, needs assessment, instructional design, and evaluation of learning programs

• Experience with Workday is an asset
