Lightscale Labs is Portland’s premier environmental chemistry lab for cannabis testing, and we are looking for a Lab Director.

Summary: Execution of analytical chemistry techniques and instrumental analysis utilizing Good Laboratory Practices standards. Understand basic chemical principles and fundamental analytical chemistry theories. Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation. Establish quality control metrics and protocols and accurately report results. Perform technical and complex analysis of samples and laboratory standards. Maintain and review all laboratory documentation and perform critical examination of analytical data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of daily laboratory operations; assignment of staff duties and monitoring testing performance, supervision of all laboratory personnel
  • Purchase, installation, operation, and routine maintenance of all analytical laboratory instrumentation, such as HPLC, GC-MS and LC-MS/MS and standard laboratory equipment
  • Establish analytical testing methods, standard operating procedures, validation protocols, quality control metrics, and analytical specifications in accordance with State and Federal regulatory requirements to ensure continued ORELAP certification status
  • Prepare test samples, dry/wet products, solutions, laboratory reagents
  • Perform technical, chemical, biological, and physical analysis of samples and standards
  • Maintain accurate documentation; collect, record, interpret, perform mathematical calculations, and report analysis data
  • Maintain laboratory statistics; quality control metrics, instrumentation calibration data, chain of custody forms, State and Federal agency reports
  • Ensure the lab is in compliance with all OHA/OLCC/ODA cannabis/hemp rules and regulations
  • Carry out laboratory chemicals and consumables ordering, storage, inventory maintenance, and waste disposal
  • Maintain and enforce State and Federal chemical laboratory safety protocols
  • Participate in long-range planning and budgeting processes, project personnel and equipment needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of advancements in technologies relating to environmental chemistry
  • Attend workshops, regulatory and committee meetings, continuing education courses, trade shows, environmental lab conferences, and any other pertinent industry-related events

Knowledge of:

Qualifications:

  • Familiar with TNI, NELAP, ISO standards, and ability to learn Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) as they apply to cannabis testing
  • Cannabis industry experience preferred
