Cost Accounting Manager

Position Summary :

The Plant Controller is responsible for all the accounting processes, financial transactions, standard costing, and financial reporting functions at our Auburndale grow facility. The Plant Controller partners with local site leadership and the corporate accounting team to ensure accuracy of periodic results and the existence of a strong internal control environment at the site, especially as it relates to Inventory. The Plant Controller provides direction to the local finance personnel (cost accountants, FP&A, and procurement teams) and works with the corporate accounting team to improve, automate, and simplify current accounting and reporting processes to maximize their efficiency and effectiveness.

Essential Functions :

• Develop s a team of cost accountants and financial analysts ; determines multi-state structure for function as either centralized or state-specific

• Coordinates with the Supply Chain and Planning teams and d evelop s / report s manufacturing site long-term planning, forecasts , and budgets, including operational key performance indicators, working capital metrics, and productivity/sourcing actions

• Creates and implements appropriate best practices and internal controls necessary to manage day-to-day accounting function , specifically as it relates to Inventory controls

• Manage s standard costing for local manufacturing support and investigate s all variances to ensure proper inventory valuation and allocation/management of costs

• Support s site management to develop capital asset investment requests and oversees fixed asset accounting and preservation

• Manage s physical control of local site inventory through cycle count procedures and physical inventory assessments as appropriate

• Work closely with operations to suggest and implement process improvements and to identif y and mitigate risks with current processes

• Build s out costs for approximately 300 product SKUs to enable cost-driven decision making

• Supports corporate accounting team in closing out inventory balance sheet accounts monthly and producing timely and accurate financial reporting

• Manage s Capex justification, budgeting, tracking and analysis processes for the grow facility

• Review s internal controls for purchasing, accounts payable , and inventory management functions on a regular basis to ensure corporate compliance

• Analyze s and prepares report s on daily, weekly , and monthly KPIs and set s monthly spending goals

• Acquires a deeper understanding of important inventory and operational metrics, such as waste, yields, etc., and reports that data regularly to upper management in relation to industry standards

• Create s custom labor reports in the payroll system for cost accounting analysis and distribution to management to enhance operational efficiency and meet production goals

• Participate s in the selection and implementation of an ERP system that accomplishes key strategic initiatives including job costing and a perpetual inventory system ; once implemented, d evelops and implements appropriate accounting and business procedures

• Support s new product development and standard costing as necessary

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or MBA required

• CPA, CMA, and/or CFA preferred

• Minimum of 10years of progressively responsible accounting and leadership experience required

• Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required

• Excellent understanding of internal controls as it relates to inventory , and experience in implementation and documentation of such controls required

• Experience hiring and managing a team required

• Exposure to ERP systems required, with experience in a related implementation preferred

• Experience working in a fast-paced, start-up or high-growth environment preferred

• Knowledge of SOX compliance and policy as it relates to internal controls preferred

• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Must be at least 21 years of age

• Must have a reliable personal vehicl e

• Must be able to pass a background check in accordance with state regulations

The ability to perform advanced analysis and data manipulation in Excel (and visualization analysis in Excel for presentation purposes). Demonstrated skill in generating alternative solutions to problems.

The ability to effectively converse and listen to others concerning company matters. The use of proper written and grammatical skills, and the meaningful application of computer technology [e-mail, Internet, etc.].

This will include a detailed journal entry review and analysis of financial results. This will also include acting in the preparer capacity for more difficult and complex accounts.</li><li>Build and maintain a routine monthly close and reporting system, designed to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to all stakeholders.</li><li>Supervise, train and mentor Accounting staff. Perform detailed review of team members’ work products. Assist or personally complete more complex accounting tasks. Create appropriate reconciliations for new accounts or processes as needed.</li><li>Work to build an understanding of business operations for relevant entities in order to anticipate financial statement trends. Ability to elevate anticipated financial issues or ideas to management as appropriate.</li><li>Work collaboratively with both supervisory team and direct reports in order to maintain adherence to close calendar, both for monthly close as well as quarterly and annual close.</li><li>Work with other departments as necessary to ensure financial statements are complete and accurate; work to understand and test the completeness and accuracy of key sources of data.</li><li>Train and develop Accountants to become more knowledgeable about the relevant entities, and to generally develop their accounting and reporting skills. Determine ways to provide cross-training opportunities for Accountants to further grow and diversify each Accountant’s skill sets. Collaborate with Accountants and Director of Accounting on goal setting and reviews for all direct reports.</li><li>Participate in the preparation of quarterly financial statements.
