About the Role :

A full-time, experienced Controller for our growing cannabis operations. As the Controller, you will have primary responsibility over the bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting for the company, working directly with our Founders and Executive Leadership Team and will hold management responsibilities within the finance department.

You will also work in direct contact with the company’s accountants.

This individual has a deep understanding of business accounting principles, and QuickBooks experience. They will undertake all aspects of the company’s financial reporting and to offer strategic advice based on analysis of the company and business unit financial performance.

The Controller is responsible to provide primary oversight for the bookkeeping functions and to ensure accurate financial reporting, including but not limited to : preparation of financial statements, budgeting and cash flow planning, account reconciliation, compiling and analyzing financial reports, tax preparation assistance, and monitoring the overall financial performance of the company.

Duties and Expectations :

• Exhibit a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual compiled financial statements, including individual business units and consolidated results across business units and corporate entities.

• Calculate and issue a financial analysis summary of the financial statements.

• Create cash flow reports for management on a regular schedule.

• Oversee bookkeeping functions at the company.

• Primary point of contact and driver of :

• The creation of annual business unit budgets.

• Company valuation projections.

• Acquisitions, divestitures, or other transactions.

• Other projects as directed.

• Create budget to actual reports and offer analysis and analytical insight, including industry standard performance metrics.

• Prepare annual tax return drafts for management review.

• Ensure proper tax collection and remittance across business units.

• Assist management in tax strategy and structuring of within and across business units and entities.

• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements.

• Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested.

• Handle sensitive and confidential business matters with discretion.

• Demonstrate good judgment in problem-solving involving multiple levels of the organization, including admin, IT, payroll processing, tax return preparation, and consulting engagements.

Qualifications :

• CPA certification or degree in accounting, finance, or business administration (or equivalent business experience).

• Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles.

• Relevant cannabis industry experience.

• Preference will be given to candidates with additional accounting education, a CPA certification, and knowledge of QuickBooks Online.

This position will require 3 days per week on-site in our Waterfall, PA facility.</p><p><b>Essential Functions:</b></p><p>Inventory Control</p><p>• Partner with Operations &amp; Finance teams to receive and track all Grow inventory</p><p>• Produces and streamlines month-end inventory reports</p><p>• Becomes expert user in state’s seed-to-sale system and helps reconcile and troubleshoot where needed</p><p>• Partners with Operations &amp; Finance to drive any write-offs or provisions for aging inventory</p><p>Grow Capital Expenditures Budget and Tracking</p><p>• Oversees FY 22 capital expenditures budget for Grow location</p><p>• Tracks Capital Expenditures budget vs. actuals plus relevant monthly depreciation calculations</p><p>• Partners with Operations and Finance to escalate any significant variances or unplanned Capital Expenditures</p><p>• Establishes and socializes approach for tracking projects’ ROI, IRR, and NPV</p><p>General Grow P&amp;L Oversight</p><p>• Serves as first point-of-contact for State Director of all matters related to P&amp;L of Grow, with primary focus on all Costs of Goods Sold costs and G&amp;A expenses</p><p>• Tracks all material Grow expenses and works with management to align spend to budget</p><p>Additional Functional and Project-Based Responsibilities</p><p>• Partners with Procurement, Operations, Master Data, and Accounts Payable to help reconcile any vendor-related issues for key supplies of facility services, including onboarding and payments</p><p><b>Qualifications:</b></p><p>• Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting; CPA preferred</p><p>• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including supervisory experience. Public accounting experience, as well as corporate accounting experience preferred; Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.</p><p>• Experience or exposure to all areas of accounting including but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash/revenue, fixed assets, accruals and reserves. Understanding of the principles of inventory manufacturing processes, retail sales processes, sales and use tax, and public company audit and Sarbanes Oxley compliance.</p><p>• 3+ years supervisory experience required, effectively managing and developing a team of professionals.</p><p>• Manufacturing and Retail experience preferred.</p><p>• Experience working in a highly computerized environment and processing financial transactions using an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and/or accounting software. QuickBooks and/or Epicor experience preferred.</p><p>• Hands-on experience with ERP system implementations.</p><p>• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.</p><p>• Proven ability to prioritize and complete tasks with competing deadlines.</p><p>• Accurate, self-starter, with the ability to prioritize and complete tasks with competing deadlines.</p><p>• Professional written and verbal communication with multiple levels and departments.</p><p>• Analytical, detail-oriented, and honest.</p><p>• ** Background Check Requirement ***</p><p>As a condition of employment, a complete background investigation will be conducted based on the rules of the specific State in which the employee is hired.
