The Opportunity

We are looking to add to our Corporate Health, Safety and Environment team by adding a USA region Health, Safety and Environment Manager (HSE Manager). The USA HSE Manager is to execute technical and functional responsibilities related to health, safety and environmental areas within the region; mentor and supervise the safety function; be responsible for the implementation of Company safety policies, procedures, and methods; be cognizant of the issues and challenges facing the Company and coordinate the strengths, resources, and capabilities to achieve the Company’s goals and objectives. The USA HSE Manager will be able to use a team of support to ensure that there is knowledge-sharing with the overall objective of helping to create and sustain a productive work culture and uncompromised commitment to the protection of the employees and the environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance concerning Health and Safety issues
  • Establishment and attainment of site Health and Safety objectives and targets
  • Management of Health and Safety Team employees in the dedicated Region
  • Liaise with Corporate Health and Safety Director in the development and execution of tactical and strategic plans to improve site Health and Safety performance, including the allocation and management of HSE resources
  • Ensure the following site programs are implemented and maintained:
  • HSE communications
  • Incident and injury reporting, investigation, and recordkeeping
  • Worker’s compensation claims management and the sites Return to Work programs
  • HSE corrective and preventive actions to ensure timely follow-up and implementation
  • Timely completion of all required safety, environmental and sustainability reporting to internal and external interested parties
  • Process safety and risk management programs, where applicable
  • Environmental & safety management programs
  • Site and chemical security programs
  • Emergency preparedness and response programs
  • Support hazardous materials transportation compliance and other regulatory affairs related programs
  • Identify safety initiatives that will elevate employee engagement to achieve zero accidents and zero loss across facilities
  • Advise on process modifications to ensure consideration of potential hazards during operating processes
  • Other duties as assigned
Experience
  • Degree or Diploma in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
  • Eight to ten (8-10) years of progressively responsible experience to include health, safety and environmental regulations, HSE management practice and behavioral sciences
  • Experience in people management
  • Strong leadership ability, excellent decision-making skills and the ability to provide clear focus and direction
  • Outstanding verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to partner, influence and work effectively with management and outside third parties and positively interact with employees and coworkers
  • Demonstrated abilities, knowledge and understanding of concepts such as: HSE Management Systems, Hazard Identification, Risk and Impact Identification, Analysis and Assessment, techniques for monitoring and improving HSE/DOT and Sustainability Performance, preparation, development and delivery of training
  • Ability to be flexible, motivated, resourceful, independent, reliable and organized in a multitask environment
  • Ability to travel as needed to all CGC USA locations (both scheduled and unscheduled)
  • Valid Driver’s license and Passport for travel
