The Executive Vice President (EVP), Business Development plays a pivotal role within AGLC by leading three lines of business (gaming, liquor and cannabis) while supporting the CEO in developing and executing the strategic initiatives of the organization and will be the internal champion of driving business growth. The incumbent will be responsible for designing, planning and implementing innovative business strategies to ensure that gaming, liquor and cannabis operations return maximum direct and indirect economic benefit for AGLC, the Government of Alberta, stakeholders and Albertans and that they are conducted with integrity and social responsibility. As a member of the Executive Team, the position fosters and champions an innovative and customer-centric culture; presents solutions and options to address complex business challenges and provides leadership to integrating business strategies and projects/initiatives. The position will take a proactive, networking approach to managing the many perspectives, business endeavors, relationships and interactions within AGLC, government ministries and external agencies and partners. In addition, the incumbent will support the modernization of AGLC by leveraging technology and digital capabilities to respond to stakeholder and consumer needs.

responsibilities & ACTIVITIES

The EVP, Business Development is responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

• Leads and directs the gaming, liquor and cannabis divisions providing strategic and operational oversight

• Identify and execute on direct and indirect business growth and new business opportunities in each of the three categories while meeting or exceed AGLC financial targets

• Is key to leading a cultural of transformation that focuses on the customer/consumer experience

• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders and internal business partners, gaming, liquor and cannabis jurisdictions and GoA ministries and to represent the organization’s interests

• Provide leadership and fosters a positive working environment that supports communication, collaboration and high performance as well as staff engagement, satisfaction and personal development

• Responsible to provide an inclusive working environment, professional tools and learning/ developmental opportunities to ensure a healthy workforce now and for the future that is digitally fluent

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Post-secondary degree in Business, Management or related field.

• Requires a minimum of 15 years of broad executive management experience along with deep expertise in strategic and business planning in a complex, high-level stakeholder environment and proven success as a leader, formulating policies, directing diverse groups to achieve results.

• Requires demonstrated ability to develop and implement business development opportunities that provide direct and indirect economic growth while focusing on consumer and stakeholder benefits. Retail experience and/or experience in gaming, liquor or cannabis industries is desirable.

• Must have a proven track record for successful business transformation and achieving financial results.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, and collaborate strategically with a wide variety of stakeholders, and to balance the needs and interests of diverse groups.

• An understanding of strategic concepts and the ability to translate those to tangible elements of an agreement and project processes.

• Exceptional verbal, written, listening and interpersonal communication skills.

• Experience in effectively managing significant fiscal and human resources, especially in an environment in which there is a great deal of change.

• Advanced critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify key issues and risks, and to develop strategic solutions and policy recommendations.

• An ability to encourage new approaches and question existing ones to ensure that most efficient and effective outcomes are achieved.

• Champion change management through personal flexibility, resilience and high energy to meet the ongoing challenges of changes in work goals, priorities and periods of transition.

• Actively facilitate collaborative working relationships with others. Keenly aware that to gain support for their ideas and initiatives, influence colleagues and other decision makers and effectively represent the interests of AGLC.

• As a member of the Executive Team champion and support all corporate initiatives.

• Experience working in a regulated industry with government oversight is desirable.
