As a HEXO Graphic Designer you create graphic materials for digital, print and web that support all HEXO, UP and Original Stash brands, including the brand of the Corporation and/or any new brand under HEXO’s management, in in a way that follows established guidelines per brand to maintain consistency and enhances points of differentiation. You have an excellent ability to take requirements of a project and create visual communications that exceed expectations and deliver persuasive messages.
You have a powerful sense of creativity and problem-solving when working with constraints on a project to meet requirements while respecting strict Health Canada regulations surrounding the promotion of cannabis. You demonstrate autonomy, time management skills and can quickly adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where projects can pivot at any time.

You work closely with the marketing team, internal clients, external agencies and/or vendors, to support the creation and expression of campaigns and other marketing activities that will visually position HEXO brands as most desirable to target audiences. Your primary focus is supporting marketing activities aligned to the maintenance/enhancement of each brand and revenue generating activities. You build wireframes and creative assets needed to create net new web pages, maintain our website and developing wrappers for new web-based portals and applications. You produce video and animated content from the ground up by going from storyboard to motion graphics creation to video editing to final output files.

Job Responsibilities

As Graphic Designer with Motion Design Video/Animation specialization, you will be responsible for:
  • Working closely with Marketing and internal clients to produce video and animated content that conveys our brands’ voice and message on digital and social platforms as well as in retail by:
  • Creating storyboards and executing on them
  • Developing motion graphics and animations
  • Editing and correcting video content
  • Assembling optimized final output files
  • Collaborating with Marketing team and internal clients on corporate, brand and product marketing:
  • Researching, developing, and executing on creative concepts that are aligned to the brief and the established brand style guidelines.
  • Working with the Compliance team to ensure all material created respects strict Health Canada regulations surrounding the promotion of cannabis products.
  • Taking creative feedback and adapting projects accordingly.
  • Finalizing creative look & feel of concepts and adapting to necessary formats: trade materials, advertising (digital/print), website, and more.
  • Work closely with Studio Manager on project details and scheduling.
  • Understanding when excessive cycles require a “pause” on the project for a reassessment.
  • Quickly identifying when process is broken and taking immediate steps to inform, communicate and reset with the Managers support.
  • Articulate design decisions based on the goals of the project, the established design strategy, and knowledge of design theory.
  • Creating, editing and sourcing images for ads, creative assets, social media, and website.
  • Creating packaging and labels that follow strict Health Canada Guidelines.
  • Maintaining and organizing creative files on the media library.
  • Will undertake responsibilities of the Creative Studio Manager in their absence, including the intake of new projects, project management and supervision of any other creative team member.
  • Staying on trend with design industry, both from a design and tech perspective.
  • Understand the technical requirements in print, signage, digital, web, and social media
  • Keenly aware of process and the need for constant improvement
Job Requirements
  • College/University degree or equivalent in Graphic Design
  • Proven working experience in Graphic Design (7+ years), particularly in the cannabis industry
  • Strong sense of creativity and problem-solving to meet requirements on a project while respecting Health Canada regulations surrounding the promotion of cannabis products.
  • Precise eye for detail with the ability to spot minute inaccuracies.
  • Deep understanding of branding and graphic design principles.
  • Ability to proficiently use Adobe Creative Cloud design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Media Encoder, Lightroom), and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word) with knowledge of video/animation software (After Effects, Premiere) and web Design software (Adobe XD and Figma) as a bonus.
  • Assembling files to meet prepress and print production specifications and timelines.
  • Will challenge thinking respectfully where it makes sense with clients.
  • Ability to communicate clear and concise directions as well as constructive feedback to team members
  • Ability to demonstrate autonomy and time management skills in an incredibly fast-paced, ever-changing environment where projects can pivot at any time and the designer needs to quickly review priorities and manage their time accordingly to meet deadlines.
  • Professional working ability in French is an asset (English is the primary working language for HEXO Corp’s marketing function)
  • Having a general knowledge of cannabis (strains, cannabinoids, types), competitors and staying up to date with cannabis news as well as graphic/cultural trends

DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research (MGD CMCR) at McMaster University/St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is inviting applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship in the area of cannabis and cognition research. The fellow will work closely with a primary mentor from the Centre’s faculty to gain new skills and contribute to existing projects.</p><p>The Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research is a multidisciplinary leader in medicinal cannabis research. The Centre is led by the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. This initiative leverages McMaster University’s world-renowned expertise in health research and evidence-based medicine to create a hub for evidence-based data and innovative research. The Centre is a partnership between McMaster University, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, the Peter Boris Centre for Addictions Research and the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.</p><p>The current opportunity is to work with Drs. Iris Balodis and James MacKillop on the relationship between cannabis and cognition. This includes investigations of potential adverse impacts of cannabis on cognition and studies on the neural correlates of reward processing and cannabis reinforcing value in cannabis users.</p><p>Eligible applicants will have completed a Ph.D. or MD (or equivalent) degree, training in psychology, psychiatry, sociology, neurosciences &amp; behaviour, or related discipline within the last five years. The individual should have a background in mental health and addictions, plus experience conducting qualitative research.</p><p>The successful candidate will participate in research team meetings. The fellowship will be for one year, potentially renewable for a second year.</p><p><b>Key Objectives and Responsibilities:</b></p><ul><li>Professional development regarding knowledge transmission through abstracts, presentations, manuscripts</li><li>Teach undergraduate students about qualitative research methods</li><li>Apply specialized knowledge and scientific principles to review, critically appraise and interpret published scientific literature</li><li>Write scientific papers, funding proposals, and abstracts</li><li>Prepare oral and poster presentations for scientific conferences</li><li>Liaise between the project centre and remote project sites and personnel</li><li>Work collaboratively with research team members and partners in the project</li><li>Work flexible hours to conduct qualitative interviews with participants and other research team members</li><li>Document, analyze, interpret, and communicate data and results</li><li>Research material and conduct are handled per established protocols, policies, and procedures.</li></ul><p></p><p><br />To apply, applicants should submit a current CV and letter of interest to IRIS BALODIS ([email protected]).
